Since then I have been working on a major new product group from Bali that I hope is going to be as fast moving as Salt Lamps or Soap Flower Bouquets. Can't tell you much right now, except that it ticks all the right boxes, an ethical sustainable product, beautiful and natural but functional. Everyone will want one, and hopefully we can secure enough supplies to meet demand. Watch this space :)

We went visit the batik lady she is called Wayan Masih. Another lady boss, there is a lot of lady bosses here. They make the beautiful hand painted batik wall hangings, flags and throws. We have been selling for many years. The workshop is little more than an enlarged shop unit on the edge of Ubud, they extend outside almost overlapping the rice terrace when the weather is fine. It's as busy as a beehive type of place, rayon sheets are stretched between wooden posts where one lady hand draws the designs with fine lines of molten wax. Then colours are painted / dyed directly on the fabric. Skillfully they can make one colour bleed to another for dramatic effects. After they are sun dried, the wax washed out - leaving clean white lines in the designs... and then dried again in the sun, finally cut and stitched with labels added.

The batik when you see how much love, care and craft-person-ship is involved - well it's amazing value. Everyone slightly different, lovely to behold. It's another product we buy as much as they can produce.. but often end up out of stock.
Last time I was in Bali I had this idea to develop something new with them, a range of meditation mats. Something that would look amazing on Instagram in the right location. Hand painted batik, but then double sided with stuffing and stitching inside the patten, bit like a thin quilt. The first production sample was finally available. Our lady boss, had taken our designs and really worked hard to make them perfect.
