Linda & Nechama at the Shine Your Light Tribute Concert

Dear Friends,

Imagine if Anne Frank would not have been locked away in an attic, how much more she could have accomplished? All it takes is a small candle to add so much light to a dark room.

While Linda Schwartz was planning her daughter Meirah’s Bat Mitzvah party, she was moved to honor the 70th Yahrzeit of Anne Frank. She wanted to pay tribute to a girl who made a difference by writing in her diary about her hopes and dreams for a better world while in hiding. Linda felt that the finest way to honor those who lost their lives is to acknowledge those who are illuminating the world.

Linda sponsored and arranged a tribute concert for women and girls at Chabad of Irvine, CA. Linda quoted Anne Frank to the crowd of 180 women and girls, "How wonderful is it that nobody needs to wait a moment before starting to improve the world. We have hope and faith in the amazing young women today that even in a time of darkness, they will continue to spread light."

The celebration honored six remarkable teen girls who were nominated with the Shining Light Award, a project of Jewish Girls Unite. Shine your Light is the beginning of a movement to empower girls to become the candle lighters of the world.

We encourage every woman and girl, the builders of our future, to ask herself: “What can I do today to be a shining light?”

Our First Shine Your Light Campaign, honoring Anne Frank's life with love and light, encouraged girls to submit a photo or video depicting a talent they use to add light to the world.

Linda Schwartz, Global founder for JGU’s Shine Your Light Movement, sponsored the iPad Mini prize and will be drawing the raffle winner at our 6th Virtual Rosh Chodesh Celebration, at 8 PM ET tomorrow, Sunday May 17.

Join the celebration and get inspired by Ruth, grandmother of Kind David, who heard her inner voice, learn from Susan Axelrod, JGU’s strategic consultant how we too can listen to our inner voice to find our passion, and clap along as Esther Kruman, singer and JGR Alumna will perform a song about Ruth that she learned at summer camp eight years ago. Inspirational singer, Rivka Leah Cylich - Velkovitch, will also share her inspiration.

All the Shine Your Light submissions will be presented by Leia Resnick, JGU member and the grand winner will be announced.

The new Jewish Girls Unite website is designed by Leah Caras, founder of Yaldah magazine, which has joined forces with JGU. The Jewish Girls Unite Global community also features exciting online classes, JGR Winter and Summer Retreats, blogs, inspiration, a unity forum, and more.

We hope to greet you at the Virtual Celebration this Sunday at 8 PM ET. Please sign up as a member at www.jewishgirlsunite.com to enter the room613 virtual classroom.
