Reconciliation Week

I was very proud of our House and Specialist Captains at last week’s assembly and the way they spoke to the community about Reconciliation Week. They spoke about the importance of Sorry Day and shared videos regarding Indigenous Perspectives that were both engaging and insightful. The voice of student leaders was particularly poignant as this year’s theme is “Be a Voice for Generations”. We also look forward to working with Uncle Glenn to build our understanding of story and history telling in Indigenous Art this week.

Canteen Trial this Friday

This Friday, 2nd of June we will be trialling "Beaver's Tail" a new canteen service. You can order a range of lunches online via this link and click on the drop-down menu for "Malvern Valley". A how to guide is attached to this newsletter newsfeed.
Beaver's Tail will not cover recess snacks and drinks. We will still be running a recess canteen window this week. You will need to order recess via quickcliq by 8pm Thursday.
If you can volunteer to help run the canteen recess window, please contact the office and we will let Binh know.

We will be seeking student and parent/carer feedback after this trial to ensure that this service meets our needs as a community. Please watch out for future Compass newsfeeds to have your say.

Chess Ideas Trial Wednesday 31st of May

We are very excited to welcome the team from Chess Ideas who will be running an afternoon Chess lesson for all interested students in year’s 3-6. The students do not need to have any experience of playing Chess to participate in this opportunity.

Working Bee Friday 2nd of June from 2:30pm- 4:30pm

This is a reminder to all parents and carers to come and join in the fun of our first Working Bee for the year. Please make your way to the amphitheatre to sign in and make sure you are wearing old clothes and bring gloves. Any students in year’s 3-6 who bring gloves and old clothes on Friday will also be able to assist for the last half hour of the day.

2024 Enrolments

2024 enrolments are now open and I urge all current families with children starting prep next year to complete their enrolment forms as soon as possible. This information will help guide staffing and class sizes for 2024 and will assist us to ensure that Prep packs and resources are ready and available for transition later this year. If you know of other families with children beginning Prep in 2024, please encourage them to enrol soon, either at MVPS or at their local school. Places are filling fast this year!

Semester One Reports Reminder

The end of semester reports will be available via Compass on the 16th of June. An important part of the reporting process will be the Parent Teacher meeting scheduled for Monday 19th of June. Bookings are now open on Compass.

*Please note that Ms Airey’s Interview times will be scheduled for another time so please wait for communication from the teacher regarding a booking time.

Stay warm!

Save the date!!

Our school musical The Lion King will be on Thursday 7th September. There will be a matinee and an evening performance and times for both performances will be confirmed soon. This year we are changing location and The Lion King will be held at the Glen Eria Auditorium. Please add this information to your calendar and continue to watch Compass and our school newsletter for updates.

MVPS Policies

This week we will be focusing on policies that link to our First Aid practices.

Health Care Needs Policy
First Aid Policy
Administration of Medication Policy

All policies are sourced from The Department of Education’s School Policy Templates Portal and Policy and Advisory Library. Adjustments are then made to the different policies to fit in with our school needs.

If you have any questions relating to any of these polices, please contact me. All our school policies can be found on our website here.

Second Hand Uniform Stall

The Second Hand Uniform Stall (SHUS) is a wonderful service. It not only allows our families to access low cost second-hand uniforms and it also creates a revenue source for the Parents Association and makes us a more sustainable community. A few reminders:
- The SHUS is located in the foyer of the Sherwood Centre
- If you have donations, please leave them in the bins provided. Please ensure the clothes are still in wearable condition and are clean when donated.
- If you would like to buy any second hand uniform items you can either email your request to mvps_pa@outlook.com or self-serve any items that you need from the SHUS area.
- Payment can be made either directly at the office, or via your school BPAY code.
- If you do help yourself to items, please ensure you pay as we operate on an honesty system. Prices are listed on the whiteboard near the SHUS.

Second Hand Uniform Stall – Seeking a new Coordinator

We are seeking a parent volunteer who can help coordinate the second-hand uniform stall – this will involve sorting through donations, keeping the area clean, and fulfilling any email orders. Time commitment is approximately 15mins per week and can be done at a time that suits you. If you have capacity to help please email Chantal McCrae (PA President) at mvps_pa@outlook.com
