Happy Weekend!

It's been an especially cool, wet fall around here. Not entirely pleasant, I must admit. But the fall colors, although not yet peaked, have been pretty awesome. I snapped a shot of the jewel-like fallen leaves in our neighbor's yard this week. They were so pretty, I forgot how cold and wet my feet were from my morning walk in the rain!

If you were following along on my Instagram story this week, you'll know that I attended an event hosted by General Mills (a local MN company) called Celebration of Cereal & Entrepreneurship. Our group enjoyed some tasty hot spots here in the Twin Cities (there is SO MUCH to offer here!) - and took in some great sessions, learning from leaders at General Mills and beyond. And. We ate cereal. LOTS of cereal. Be sure to look for their new Maple Cheerios. I'm being totally candid here when I say I'm not the biggest maple fan. But the whole grain oats with the soft maple flavor (no artificial flavors, it's real maple syrup) has me smitten. I've eaten a bowl every morning this week!

My Favorite Things: It's that time of year, when we're having to deal with colds and flu and such. Daughter #1 has had a scratchy throat and a case of the sniffles this week. Besides keeping up with a healthy lifestyle, I've come to rely on this drink mix (link HERE] for our family. Whenever any of us feels the slightest bit of a cold coming on, we drink one of these each day until the cold is gone. I do believe this has helped us chase away colds - and if not entirely, I believe it helps to shorten the duration and severity. I'd love to hear how you keep these nuisances at bay - please reply to this newsletter to share what works for you!

Thank you so much for joining us here each week, for reading the blog, and for following along on social media. We are grateful for your company.

Wishing you an awesome weekend!

NEW: On The Blog This Week

This S’mores Pie is gooey and chocolatey and utterly delicious. I've made it several times over the past month: for a tailgating party, a pre-HS football game gathering for our daughter's friends, and "just because".

If you're a s'mores fan, enjoy the flavors of your favorite summertime treat any time of year. No campfire required!

Slow Cooker Hungarian Goulash is a humble stew loaded with chunks of tender, melt-in-your-mouth beef and vegetables. A rich, beefy broth flavored with sweet paprika makes this a true comfort meal. And it's easy to make, so you're winning all the way around!

CRUMBS: What We Made Recently

The past couple years, whenever I see shishito peppers on a restaurant menu, I HAVE TO order some. They're a fall thing, with a short window to enjoy them. So when I saw these peppers at Trader Joe's recently, I had to pick some up.

I drizzled them with sesame oil, sprinkled with salt and pepper. And then we threw them in the grill basket and charred them. With a little soy sauce for dipping, they're simple to make and so very good. If you see some, give them a try!
