| Lions Weekly: February 8, 2023 | A Note From Mr. Sandefur Lion Family, Good afternoon! As you will see in this week's newsletter, there is a lot of activity occurring throughout campus. I want to encourage you to participate in our post-season basketball games, the Love Gala, and the many other events that are occurring as we celebrate with our Lion community. Today, I want to take a moment to ask that you join me in praying for a member of our Lion family who is battling cancer, Mr. Greg Lane. Without going into too much detail, please join me in praying for this faithful member of our school community and his family as they seek the Lord's healing and peace. This battle, and many others, are an example of what makes TKA different from other academic institutions. While we all fight battles in our lives, the ability to have an entire community praying for you is special. Please join me in lifting up Greg, along with others within our community who are struggling. I am truly grateful for your partnership and willingness to love those within our community. Jeremy Sandefur President/Head of School | Varsity Boys Basketball Semifinals Thursday, February 9 How does an evening filled with athletics and excitement sound? What about an out of uniform pass? We are hosting the Boys basketball semifinals tomorrow at 6PM in Tibbetts. Student entry is free. All students who attend will receive an out of uniform pass to wear spirit attire on Monday, February 13, and Tuesday, February 14. Help us pack the gym tomorrow night as we cheer our Lions to victory! | Varsity Girls Basketball Semifinals Friday, February 10 Join us on Friday night at Providence Academy at 6PM as our Lady Lions take on Providence in the semifinals! | Upcoming Mandatory Meetings Save the date and mark your calendar for these upcoming mandatory meetings for the Washington D. C. trip and Europe Trip. | Wednesday, February 15 9:00 a.m. Woody As we celebrate Black History month, our Upper School students will view a presentation of "Althea and Angela" performed by The WordPlayers Theatre Company. "Althea & Angela" tells the story of their meeting at an exhibition game in New Delhi, after which they paired up. Soon, they won the French Open and Wimbledon. It was the first time that any African-American – male or female – had ever won a Grand Slam event. It also tells the story of the unlikely events that occurred 40 years later, when one fell upon destitute times...and the other saved her life by a mass appeal to the tennis world. | 2023 Love Gala Saturday, February 25 How does an evening filled with entertainment, food, and auctions sound? The 2nd Annual Love Gala is just around the corner! This semi-formal, adult only event is sure to be a wonderful evening filled with live entertainment, a silent auction, and a live auction. Tickets for this event can be purchased by using the link below. | Host Family Informational Meeting Thursday, February 16 TKA is excited about this new opportunity to partner with Faces & Our Cultures to bring students from Guatemala for 7 weeks to The Academy. Middle School students will stay with host families for the entire 7 weeks. High School students will stay in the dorm during the week and with host families on the weekend. The young cultural ambassadors will arrive on Saturday, October 14th, stay with their host families and join our school community for the following seven (7) weeks, and then depart on Saturday, December 9th. If you are potentially interested in hosting a student and participating in this life-enriching experience, or would like more information, please plan on attending the informational meeting on Thursday, February 16, at 8:00 a.m. in the Clark Library. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact Ms. Janice Mink (jmink@thekingsacademy.net) or Sandy Cardona (sandy.cardona@facesandcultures.com). | Econ Week 2023 Thank you, parents, teachers, staff, administration, and all of the cafeteria folks for making Econ Week a great success. We raised over $1100 for various charities. Some of the charities include St.Jude, Isaiah 117 House, Ronald McDonald House and UCB (Ukraine refugee relief). "It is more blessed to give than to receive." Thank you TKA family! | Love Where We Live Our 4th Grade Lions and families created cards and gift bags for our Sevier County EMS as we continue to Love Where We Live. They had the opportunity to meet and hear about how these local heroes serve our community on a daily basis. Our Lions prayed for and over them before getting to explore the ambulance. Thank you Sevier County EMS for selflessly serving our community! The King’s Academy is praying for you! | D1 Training Middle/High school athletes can come train outside of their team training hours at the listed times. All visitors for elementary must enter the front door of the Ogle Building in order to receive a visitor's pass. This pass should be visible at all times so that TKA faculty and staff know that you have checked in at the office. Our doors are open to visitors, but please call ahead of time to schedule conferences with your child’s teachers. This will prevent interruptions to instruction and the loss of the valuable learning time of our students. Adults will not be allowed to wander the halls of the building or hold conferences with teachers during instructional times. TKA family lunch visitors should follow the above procedure. Lunch tickets are $5 each. Students who are not enrolled at TKA are not permitted to visit TKA students during the school day, which includes lunch. This policy has been developed in order to help maintain a safe and instruction focused environment at school each day. Any visitor who does not meet these expectations may be asked to leave school grounds. | | |
