North Greenpoint Community Meeting

6:30pm

80 DuPont Street
(between Manhattan and Franklin Ave)
Greenpoint, Brooklyn

NAG and Councilmember Stephen Levin invite you to an important community meeting where you can get the latest updates on the toxic NuHart Superfund site in Greenpoint, as well as the other redevelopment going on in northern Greenpoint.

NuHart is one of the most contaminated sites in North Brooklyn, with an estimated 40,000-60,000 gallons of hazardous phthalates underneath the former plastics plant, much of which have migrated offsite towards a park and proposed school. These are chemicals that are harmful to our health and environment. You can read all about the site in this interview with one of NAG's board members over on Greenpointers.

Outdoor Cinema

Performance at 7pm & Film begins at sundown.

Socrates Sculpture Park
Broadway and Vernon Blvd
Long Island City, Queens

17th Annual Outdoor Cinema presented by Socrates and Film Forum, in collaboration with Rooftop Films features open-air cinema, music, dance, and food, held in the 5-acre waterfront park in Long Island City, Queens.

This week:
"Kings of the Wind & Electric Queens" (India)
2015, 56 minutes. Directed by Gaspard Kuentz and Cédric Dupire.
Documentary as Bollywood film: “The name of my stallion is King of the Wind. My mare is called Electric Queen and she electrocutes all who get in her way…” This incredible introduction to the head-spinning Sonepur Fair, a festival held at the confluence of the Ganges and Gandak rivers on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Kartika, comes from the Horse Breeder, who, along with the Showman, the Rider, the Exorcist, the Dancer and the Mahut (elephant tamer) comprise the cast. This starry-eyed impression of the festival is sensory overload, complete with all the frenetic pacing and explosions of neon that only a visit to this fair could offer.
