Dear poet, we're heating it up this summer with outdoor events and new opportunities...

...Not to mention one last Words on Fire Poetry Happy Hour TONIGHT before month's end. It's a full week here in the RVA, with lots going on lit-wise even beyond the three River City Poets happenings. While workshops are on hiatus for the season, Poetry in Forgotten Places returns near the end of the month. And be sure to read to the end of this letter to check out our first-ever submissions call!

Monday Night Sessions

It's summer break! Which means we have no 3rd Monday workshops until September... but critiques continue on the 2nd & 4th for business as usual!

June critique dates are Monday, June 12 and Monday, June 26, both 6:30-8pm at the Urban Farmhouse in Shock Slip (1217 E. Cary St.). If you have a poem to share, please bring 6-9 copies for the table.

Critique nights and workshops are always open to all writing experience levels (unless otherwise noted) and completely free of charge. If you're inspired by what you learn on Monday nights, however, we encourage you to make a totally OPTIONAL secure online donation to support our events. 100% of funds (minus a small PayPal fee) go directly to the instructor and the furthering of these sessions. Thanks for all your help so far!

Before signing off, I do have one (or two) piece(s) of BIG NEWS. Starting JUNE 1, submissions are open for the brand-spanking-new River City Poets Anthology! We're looking for poetry of all sorts, especially from within our immediate community. Please submit! You can check out the full guidelines on our submissions page, part of our all-new (and as yet partially constructed) website.

How 'bout that for exciting, right? While you ponder what poems to send us, I hope to see you tonight at Firehouse, or later in the week at CLV or RPL!

Yours in poetry,
Joanna
