Vernon NorAms

Club President, Len Apedaile and Racers Emma Wong and Emmy Stapff at Vernon NorAms, Dec., 2016 PC Rupert Wong

The Junior Race team travelled to it's first event recently, the Haywood NorAm season opener in Vernon. With entries from all over Canada and the United States, our junior racers experienced high quality racing and fierce competition. Tallon Noble had an outstanding weekend racing up in the very deep Junior Men's category 1.2 km classic sprint event, qualifying to advance to the heats. The following day he backed up this performance with a gritty race resulting in a silver medal in Junior Boys 10 km skate. Our younger junior and juvenile racers put in solid performances in both the distance classic and distance skate races, getting that important first one under their belts. An excellent start to the season. The team looks forward to their next event in Salmon Arm, BC Cup #1 in early January.

Tallon is receiving a grant from the Dave Battison Athlete Development Fund to support his travel to the World Junior Trials in Soldier Hollow, Utah in early January. Congratulations Tallon and we look forward to hearing about your experience! If you listen hard, you will hear all of the Strathcona Nordic Members cheering you on!

BC Club Fundraising Challenge Update

Province-wide $41 005 funds were raised for the BC Club Challenge, with our club raising a whopping total of $5900! We will wait to hear how much of the Community Pot we will access due to our efforts.

This is an amazing display of support for our sport. A huge thank you to the Strathcona Nordic members and the hundreds of skiers across BC (and beyond) that supported this initiative!

L:R Annelise Henckel, Emma Wong and Stephen Lamon accept awards for their family PC: Lynn Swift

The Butcher Block fundraiser brought in $ 1233 for our club and was deposited in the Dave Battison Athlete Development Fund.
Highest sales were made by:

1. Wong family
2. Lamon family
3. Henckel family

...who all received a Toblerlone chocolate bar for their efforts. I'm sure they will be sharing with their parents.

This will be an ongoing fundraiser. For 2017, we are scheduled for late November. Keep us in mind for next year!
