Encouragement From Darla Smith

"I pray your week has been blessed in every way. The weather has been hot, hot, hot, and there has been some crazy thunderstorms because of the humidity. I am thankful for the rain because of the garden and flowers though. Our rain storage container needed a refilling. It was getting low. Reminds me of us – sometimes we get low on our spiritual fuel – the Holy Spirit – fill us up! Rain on us!"

"My WORD for the week is “UNEXPECTED.” I am pretty sure that everyone that is reading this (could be wrong) has experienced the “unexpected” in their life. Now “unexpected” can be happy or not so much. It is something for which we are not prepared. I am not sure about you, but I like to plan or prepare and sometimes when I do not get to, my feathers may get ruffled. I am much better at this than I have been in the past thanks to the Holy Spirit leading me. So, when something happens to throw a monkey wrench into it – what are we going to do? When the day is going exactly how we did not plan it – how will we act? When our wind has been taken out of our sails – how will we respond? Let us remember this – We can Trust in God – He Cares for Us! God is working – He has already gone before us and knows what is ahead for us. What can the Holy Spirit teach us in this “unexpected?” Let us get quiet and listen – hear – trust – and learn from the “unexpected.”

Philippians 1:6
God began doing a good work in you, and I am sure he will continue it until
it is finished when Jesus Christ comes again.

This week's mission group came to us locally from Poland Presbyterian and Westminster Presbyterian. This group of young people was all girls who jumped right in, watering, building raised beds, helping to dig holes, and enjoying an adventure at the creek. We are sad that we only have one more mission group to work with this year! If you know of other groups looking for service projects, please tell them about us!

Even though the weather has been hot and steamy all week, GG has managed to safely accomplish a lot. Miss Rachel made sure everyone took plenty of water and rest breaks. Rachel and Keaton didn't feel like much work was done other than watering, since the hot temps kept drying everything out. Along with watering, everyone was busy with mowing, raised bed building, harvesting our own strawberries, cleaning, and more.

Intern Keaton Surgenavic will be in Columbiana this week at Chalk on Main. Stop down and check out his art, along with all the other amazing artists. He would love the greetings and support from our GG and CGCC family! Good luck and have fun, Keaton!

For I was hungry and you gave me food;
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink;
I was a stranger and you took me in;
I was naked and you clothed me;
I was sick and you visited me.
I was in prison and you came to me.

.....When you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters,
you were doing it to me.
