Bldg Relationships Words2

Recap of our 4th Annual Workshop

During the month of August, we celebrated our 4th Annual workshop, Building Relationships in Our Communities With Families in a different way. We offered 3 sessions on 3 different days allowing additional time for each speaker, more interaction and focus time for attendees. Survey results found attendees preferred this format because they could absorb one speaker and one topic. They liked the idea of one speker diving deep in each session.
Here's the recap -
Session 1 - Safety First
Guest Speaker: Mr. Todd Daniels, Safety & Disaster Preparedness Professional
Objective: Learn safety and disaster preparedness methods that enhance family relationships
Mr. Daniels gave a powerful presentation on disaster preparedness and the importance of building relationships with family members while ensuring each family member was familiar with packing a go-bag.
Session 2 - Encouraging Deterrence
Guest Speaker: Reginald Jones, Retired State Trooper
Objective: Learn ways to improve family relationships for juvenile offenders
Mr. Jones discussed adolescents who have commited different crimes and now have a felony, as well as, how a felony affects juvenile deliquents and their family relationships. He stated, we can deter criminal behavior in adolescents within our family cell, through family relationiships and through the community.
Session 3 - Family Relationships
Guest Speaker: Cassandra Berry, Denton County Friends of the Family, Community Educator
Objective: Learn practices to enrich family relationships in abusive families
Ms. Berry presented the realities of domestic violence and sexual abuse in adition to unhealthy family structures. She helped us realize that strong family relationships are necessary and to seek resources before a life is taken.
Several attendees stated they enjoyed the 3 Zoom sessions and look forward to attending next year in-person after COVID-19 is more contained. We can't wait to see you there!
