Ministry cracks down on ‘private’ universities

The Indonesian government is continuing its crackdown on private higher institutions, including colleges and universities, that appear to have violated official standards or are involved in fraudulent activities. NETHERLANDS

University of Amsterdam to offer courses in Ukrainian

The University of Amsterdam (UvA) will be offering two courses in the field of Ukrainian language and culture starting from September 2023. The teaching will be given by linguist Oksana Kononchuk, who fled from Kyiv to Amsterdam last year and is now a guest researcher affiliated with the Russian and Slavic Studies department at the UvA. NORWAY

Twice as many women as men have completed higher education

Over 62 per cent of young women in Norway aged 25-30 have completed higher education. Less than 40 per cent of young men have attained a university or college education. The figures specifically apply to young adults aged 25-30. To read more, click here.

2 Ministries censured over international student exploitation

The Control Yuan has censured the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Labor over the trafficking of international students into low-paying factory jobs by several Taiwanese universities. To read more, click here.

Texas Governor signs anti-DEI bills

Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed two bills into law on Wednesday 14 June that will alter major practices at Texas’ public colleges and universities, banning the use of diversity, equity and inclusion programs for employee hiring and codifying restrictions on tenure. To read more, click here.

Utica, The Last Refuge Imagine living in a refugee camp in Ethiopia for six years and finding out, at long last, that you will be resettled in a small city in upstate NY. You know no one there. Utica: The Last Refuge follows the Azeins, a refugee family of four from Sudan, over the course of 2.5 years as they transition from isolation to being part of a larger community.
