Encouragement

Jesus Is Calling by Rev. Douglas MacLeod
Scripture Reading - Mark 10:46-50

"Our online newspaper includes a puzzle showing two drawings that are almost the same. The challenge is to find at least six differences between the two drawings. And to do that, you have to look closely at the details."

"In the book of Mark we need to focus on the details of Jesus’ life and how people respond to him. Did you notice, for example, that Bartimaeus is described as “sitting” when Jesus comes walking by?"

"This may seem unimportant. But it fits beautifully with the crowd’s encouraging words “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” This makes sense because we have been told that Bartimaeus was sitting by the roadside."

"From the original Greek text we also know that what the crowd is saying here is “Arise!” So Mark is not just giving us an incidental detail. Mark is using the same language that will describe Jesus’ resurrection, when he rises from the dead (see Mark 16:6). This carefully chosen word points to restoration, redemption, and resurrection: “Bartimaeus, cheer up! Arise! Your redemption is here; your salvation is coming!”

"Bartimaeus is a man whose condition has knocked him down in life. A blind person would have no standing in the community, but the arrival of Jesus made all the difference in the world to him—just as Jesus’ coming does for us."

Prayer: "Thank you, Jesus, for calling me and giving me the hope and promise that, in you,
all things are being made new. By your mercy toward me, I rise to new life! Amen."

“Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” ~ Mark 10:49 (NIV)

Church Work Day & Community Potluck

Saturday, April 16, 8am-5pm
Can you spare some time to help Spring Clean the church property?

Lamppost Farm is removing our back greenhouses and we need all the help we can get! If you can help - climbing ladders, folding & carrying plastic, using small power tools, moving metal frame pieces, and doing as yet unthought of tasks - it will be much appreciated. Come all day, come for an hour, come for any time you can spare. It's an all-hands-on-deck kind of project! Once the greenhouses are gone, the back area will look nicer and there will be new gardens and fencing.

What's a Work Day without food?!?! Since we'll be here all day, we definitely need some fuel to keep going. We'll take a lunch break for some rest and fellowship time. Lamppost Farm will provide a main dish/meat. Goodness Grows will make lemonade, iced tea, chocolate chip cookies, and a pasta salad. Everyone else is asked to bring something...drinks, snacks, salads, sides, desserts, whatever floats your boat...to share.

Easter Sunrise Breakfast

April 17, 9:30am
Volunteers to arrive at 8am.

Please sign up at the front desk so we can get an attendance estimate for this special meal. We need to gauge the amount of supplies to purchase, so signing up will help tremendously. We will enjoy pancakes, susage, eggs, and more. Thank you!

News of the Week

The weather has been all over the place this week, so it is a good thing our crew works well with last minute plan changes! We did get outside when we could and got some exciting things done in the garden. We planted potatoes AND peas AND carrots AND dill!! Woohoo! Now it really feels like spring! We have also been working in the greenhouse, planting, watering, and working on raised beds.

During our time inside we have been very busy in the kitchen. We've been making more jam and we used up some zucchini from the freezer to make an excellent homemade quick bread. The zucchini bread got us even more excited for the coming summer. When not in the kitchen, we enjoyed time creating Easter decorations and decorating around the church.

Right now our crew is out at the butterfly garden, doing some weeding and mulching. Now that spring is here, we have jumped back into our never-ending battle to keep ahead of the weeds. Anytime you want to stop out and pull a few, we'd love to have you!

Our big, gigantic, tremendous news of this week is that our 2022 CSA program is completely sold out! Way ahead of our stated deadlines, we've more than filled up the number of subscriptions we had set for the year. This is the earliest we have ever closed our enrollment period. All of us at GG send out a great big THANK YOU to all the folks who are supporting our program and entrusting us to grow fresh produce for their tables! We look forward with hope to a fantastic season.

We Love Visitors!

Wednesday was a fun day of friends and celebration! Bradly's grandma, Kris, came for lunch, bringing a special birthday meal as we celebrated Bradly. Our friend Sue came for this time of birthday fun as well, making the day even better.
