Hello ,
Greetings from Flight details AK118 from Kuala Lumpur to Guangzhou.. I'm the only non-chinese person on board. Everyone else is going home for Chinese New Year.. And they are already in party mood. I'm also going to to China for CNY.
I should just mention, in case you are hoping to see us in the Birmingham trade show, that we won't be there. Actually we have never ever done a trade show, mostly because we have never needed to, don't have any sales type people to be there and anyway believe our products should be able to to sell themselves.
We do chatty type marketing like this letter. And of course you are welcome to visit us in Sheffield. Or Bali or China or India come to that :) but sorry no pushy type salespeople at all. Anyway do you know how much those chaps cost? It has to go to your price in the end.
Last week I was telling you about when our India Agent met our Bali Agent.. You can read about it here.
Chatterjee our India guy made his first trip out of India. He was wide eyed with wonder at the Bali culture and the sheer beauty of the temples and mystic magic of the place. I took him to the sacred Monkey Forest in Ubud. Which was packed with Chinese visitors there in honour of the year of the monkey. Chatterjee is tall with badger style hair and an impressive mustache, and I think the monkeys were in awe of him because unusually they gave us no trouble.
I think the design skills and creativity in Bali are world class and cater well to Western markets. You can see Bali youngsters soak up western culture, adapt it and reproduce in their own way. And they absolutely get it. Contrast to Indian design which is also beautifully creative but not so adaptive.
But Mr Chatterjee has a plan to send simple cotton shopping bags to Bali. As prices there seem high. Maybe a trading opportunity, we will see.
Meanwhile I have arrived in China. Now in Guangzhou waiting for a connection. Monkeys everywhere.
Next week Chinese New Year..
Happy trading
David
