April 2017

Over 5,000 Michigan educators moved their #LearningForward at the annual Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning (MACUL) conference March 15-17 at the Cobo Center in Detroit.

The conference offered hundreds of breakout sessions, a makerspace, a student technology showcase, and an exhibition hall of the latest and greatest technology tools.

One of the highlights from the conference was a keynote from education reformer, Sir Ken Robinson, whose has presented past Ted Talks with much prestige. With his powerful messages on creativity and innovation in the classroom during his presentation at MACUL, it was clear why he has influenced millions of people.

REMC1 funded a charter bus that helped bring 30 educators to the conference. REMC1 is planning on doing this again for next year’s conference which will be in Grand Rapids, March 7-9, 2018. Save the date!

Macul May5

To assist UP educators in moving their #LearningForward, the MACUL group is offering a UP variation of their popular conference in Kingsford this May. The top-notch content will focus on enlightening teachers on new technology resources and teaching methods. All of this is offered in a one-day workshop that includes lunch for $50! Interested educators can learn more about this great conference on the MACUL Conference website.

Tech Academy

(Ozobot Candy Store Challenge)

The GOISD Tech Academy met on March 31 and the CCISD Tech Academy met on April 7. Teachers selected by their schools to represent them, referred to as ‘coaches,’ met for a full day workshop that focused on technology integration ideas and best practice. Main topics discussed at this meeting were MACUL highlights, new technology tools, virtual reality, and makerspace resources. The illustration above is the Ozobot Candy Store Challenge which required participants to engineer a lego wagon and code their Ozobot to transport their candy from “factory” to “marketplace.” Be sure to talk to your school’s technology coach to learn more about these great technology tools and resources!
