MN High School League Leaders Summit 2020

At each Leaders Summit event, we present material to keep coaches current on national curriculum developments and also provide a tailored agenda specific for coaches and teams here in Minnesota. In addition, Leaders Summit events allow coaches and team directors to meet and reconnect directly with other team leaders and MN League core staff.

NEW for 2020 - Two Leaders Summit Events

LEADERS SUMMIT 1:
Returning Coaches, Head Coaches, and Team Directors.
Date: Sat. March 21, 2020
Location: Quality Bike Products, 6400 W 105th St, Bloomington, MN 55438

At the March Leaders Summit event, we will focus on topics that are critical for existing teams. Be prepared for roundtable discussions and opportunities to collaborate and learn from other attendees, as well as from MN League Core Staff. From NICA policies and procedures to team organization, and coaching structures, this event offers an opportunity for teams to listen, share and discuss topics critical to helping everyone prepare for the 2020 season.

Pricing, agenda and event details are still being worked out. Plan on spending a full day with other MN League coaches, team directors, and MN League core staff.

NOTE: The Bye-Week draw will be conducted after the March Leaders Summit on Sat. March 21, 2020. Attendees for the draw do not need to attend the March Leaders Summit.

Registration will open on Sat. Feb. 1, 2020, for the Leaders Summit 1.
Pricing and full event details will be emailed out to all coaches and team directors by Sat. Feb. 1, 2020.

LEADERS SUMMIT 2:
New Coaches or Coaches that have not yet attended a Leaders Summit
Date: Sat. May 2 - Sun. May 3, 2020
Location: Quality Bike Products, 6400 W 105th St, Bloomington, MN 55438

This Leaders Summit will focus on helping new coaches who are working on getting a new team up and biking! At this event, coaches will gain an understanding of the core NICA coaching curriculum - currently being used in 30 other leagues across the nation - that forms the foundation for effectively starting and supporting a team. An example of topics covered will be on-the-bike skills training, risk management, core coaching philosophy, effective practice planning, and much more. Beyond learning critical information for how to coach and manage a team, this is also an opportunity to connect and meet other coaches in the MN league.

Registration will open on Sat. Feb. 1, 2020, for the Leaders Summit 2.
Pricing and full event details will be emailed out to all coaches and team directors by Feb. 1, 2020.

2020 BYE-WEEK DRAW

Mark your calendar!

On Sat. March 21, at Quality Bicycle Products, the 2020 Bye-Week Draw will be held in the afternoon (~3:00 pm). A coach from each team is required to attend and sign in for the draw.

What is the Bye-Week Draw? The bye-week draw is a selection process that teams use to pick their season’s four races from the seven races in the season. The remaining three races become a team’s ‘bye’ weeks.

Reminder, the eighth race is the All-Team Finale where all teams are invited to race!

NOTE: The attending coach for the draw does NOT need to attend the Leaders Summit event in order to attend the Bye-Week Draw.

Let's get #morekidsonbikes and #morecoachesonbikes!

COACH TOWN HALL EVENTS

NEW FOR 2020!

As we continue to grow past 2,000 student-athletes and 900 coaches, keeping an open dialog between the MN league core staff and our teams is increasingly a challenge and simultaneously important.

To help improve the dialogue between coaches and core staff, the MN High School Cycling League is rolling out a series of virtual town halls to offer a forum for discussion and education. Each town hall event will consist of a year-in-review, followed by proposed changes/feedback and an open discussion. Meetings will be approximately 2 hours.

Multiple, identical, town halls will be conducted over several weeks to ensure each team can attend and enable everyone to engage in the discussion.

Call-in instructions will be sent via email by Fri. Feb. 7th, including a formal agenda with topics to the head coach of each coaching group/team. The coach e-mailed for each team/coaching group is shown below. If the incorrect person is listed for your team/coaching group, please e-mail joshua@minnesotamtb.org prior to Fri. Jan. 31, 2020.
