Art connects us 1

Hi there,

There's a beautiful scene in the book Love in Ruin when the protagonist, Marty, a gutsy journalist, visits a prisoner of war camp in Finland. There is death and devastation all around. The prisoners, so young and naive, seem not even to know what they are fighting for. The guards, although they have a job to do, empathize deeply with the plight of their captives. As the day closes, Marty, the guards, and her guide draw together in their temporary quarters. One of the men pulls out his guitar and begins to play a song they all know. The voices ring out, the sound swells, and Marty finds that she and the others are connected in the beauty of the music. They are together swept away and lifted to a higher place where the horror of the day does not touch them. Such is the power of art.

As we reflect this day on the tragedy, still painful after 17 years, it is art that can heal our collective sorrow. Art, like tragedy, brings us together. Because the ability to experience art is uniquely human, it provides a continue reading

No Plain Jane Cardigan Knitalong

The standout piece from the WOOLADDICTS collection for many of us was the No Plain Jane Cardigan. Worked in lovely light Air, it's a perfect garment for every day of your life. It works with jeans, leggings, skirts, dresses. Probably even your pyjamas, which is good because once you put it on, you never ever want to take it off.

Join us for the No Plain Jane KAL kickoff Sunday, September 16th at 1:30. It's a quick knit on US size 10.5 needles, so you'll probably be done pretty quickly. Can't wait!

Berroco Aero Trunk Show

September 15-22

Come see all the gorgeous garments knit in Aero, Berroco's beautiful new yarn confection. Dreamy soft, as you would expect from baby alpaca, and fluffy, like whipped cream, with richly saturated colors. I know that sounds more like food, but hey, this yarn is positively delicious.

Look for glamorous Gedifra yarns this month. Luxurious yarns milled in Tuscany Italy and chic designs with a decidedly European flair. Follow crazyforewe on Instagram for previews of the yarns and designs.

River cruise -- French Wine Country May 2020

map and ship

Join me on a fabulous river cruise through the Bordeaux region of France - home of legendary castles, chateaux, and wine! I'm not big cruise ship kinda girl, but this is a small, luxury ship built for the Gironde, a very small waterway where the Dordogne and Garonne Rivers meet. I've always wanted to do a trip like this -- it's going to be amazing! We'll have beautiful sights, delicious food, and legendary wine all in the company of other knitters who see the world through yarn-colored glasses.

It's more than a year away, so you'll have plenty of time to save up, gather your leave, and get your passport in order. Put aside just $10/day, and you'll have this cruise paid for by next October. Your biggest worry will be which knitting projects to take with you!

So many times the nice cabins are sold out before you can even book, but my friend Shirley, travel agent extraordinaire, has reserved 15 cabins just for us for 60 days. If you'd like to join us, please let me know as soon as possible. A deposit of $500 is due by 31 October 2018 (that's this Halloween) to hold the cabin you want.
