As we approach the tenth Just this Day which will be the last one in this present format, I would like to revisit the original idea which came as a flash of inspiration over 10 years ago. It flashed up the power of stillness which meditation provides which can allow our differences to dissolve giving a profound sense of the unity of people. The great teachers say that when unity is experienced together, the strong vibrations created can help societies and peoples everywhere. Great gratitude for the support of Nick Holtam, now Bishop of Salisbury, then Vicar of St Martin-in-the-Fields and the clergy team at St Martin who have welcomed us each year. Huge thanks to the people who have supported this idea, the School of Economic Science which have sponsored the event annually, the Study Society and the School of Meditation all of whom practice a mantra meditation from the Advaita tradition. Thanks to the Brahma Kumaris who practice Raj Yoga meditation and the World Community of Christian Meditation who offer simple mantra meditation from the Christian tradition. Thanks to the singers from Discantus who have sung us towards stillness over the years and in advance thanks to David Ward and Peter Nall for this year's music. Thanks to those of you who have created your own events to chime in with a call to stillness round the world. All of you have kept the inspiration alive.
Go to the just this day website to see what events might be happening near where you are in whatever part of the world. Or start your own event, it isn't difficult to find your neighbours on the same path.
Please encourage people who feel similarly to join in, to attend an event, to watch the live stream and join in the meditation in the morning at St Martin, and to find in themselves and their neighbours the natural unity which exists if you access it.

Global Cooperation House

Have your ever met the Brahma Kumaris or have you ever been to their London headquarters in Willesden? Well, you are in for lots of surprises and all of them good. First, the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University is a women led, worldwide community of modern day renunciate. Having renounced much of what we might take to be the pleasures of life, these wonderful people wearing white serve the world with a purity which is heart-warming to meet. They have been alongside Just this Day since the very first one and their support and encouragement to the organiser has been an inspiration! This year, they are hosting an afternoon at their London headquarters, Global Cooperation House in Willesden on Saturday November 18th. You will meet Sister Jayanti their European Director who will introduce us to their meditation, Sister Maureen Goodman who will chair the event. A young sister, Mina Karawadra who is introduced at the end of the newsletter will be in conversation with Father Laurence Freeman OSB, Salina Ahmed co-founder of Inspirited Minds and Jeremy Sinclair, Chairman of M and C Saatchi. We have asked them to speak about their own experience of The Inward Turn to Freedom and have titled the afternoon Points of Light. You will receive the unique hospitality which the Brahma Kumaris offer and Father Laurence will lead all of in a meditation at the end of the afternoon. You can register for this event which is free by following this link to Eventbrite

St Martin-in-the-Fields

I am very grateful to the clergy team at St Martin-in-the-Fields for hosting us for over 10 years. It is a marvellous place to meet with a tangible atmosphere of spiritual witness from the many years of worship. Known as the Church of the ever open door, it welcomes people of faith and none to find peace and perhaps to discover their own spiritual centre. The two speakers, Father Laurence Freeman OSB, well known to many meditators and BK Sister Jayanti have spoken at Just this Day before. I am delighted that they will be speaking at this my last event as they are utterly compelling speakers and have the special presence which years of meditation and spiritual practice give. Do come and if you would like to meet one another after the morning event, e mail me at info@justthisday.org. You can register for the event which is free by following the link to Eventbrite
Details of the event can be found on the just this day website events page.

BK Sister Mina

From the Grannies meditate too blog
This is Mina, she is one of the happiest and brightest and cheeriest young women you could ever wish to meet. I would like to introduce her to everyone I know. Her happiness is not a happiness dependent on anything other than her own understanding and belief. Her belief that her whole being and person was/is designed to be peaceful, happy and content and to help others. The photograph doesn't really convey how beautiful she really is. You find yourself just wanting to watch her and the reason seems to be the beauty which although it is beauty of face and feature, is also a beauty which is also a beauty beyond it. She would say that her real self is within, it isn't the white sari-clad 5 foot, 5 inch (I'm guessing) person made of flesh and blood.

She would say, and indeed she does say that her self is a point of light within which has a direct connection with God. Having met her, I find myself convinced that what she is saying is true for her and is quite possibly true for us too. You could meet her if you went along to the Oxford Inner Space Centre on Broad Street which she looks after. She came to talk to a group of us who had been considering meditation in a new light. We had started looking at meditation not just as a discipline but as an act of tenderness between the meditator and God, an act of gratitude for all we are given, an act of surrender of our own belief that we are the ones who do, who give and who have. If you think about it, the idea that we own anything, give anything or are anything is a joke which we haven't really decided to join in with. When you meet someone who has realised that it is a joke, a kindly joke and they give up the idea of their individual person to something larger, they shine with the confidence of it being just like that. You can meet her on November 18th at Global Cooperation House.
A short biography.
Originally from India, Mina moved to the UK as a teenager with her family. In 1997, having noticed/noticing surprising positive changes in her father’s personality Mina was curious about what he was studying and practicing, and this was how she discovered Raj Yoga, the meditation practiced by the Brahma Kumaris. She was fascinated by its simplicity and clarity and by the generosity and benevolence of its practitioners.
Meditation immediately helped her concentration and clarity improving her studies and particularly when she took up a professional accountancy training and career.
Having taken up the life of a renunciate she now lives at the Brahma Kumaris Global Retreat Centre sharing her time between her work as Accounts manager and helping to run Inner Space a meditation centre in Oxford.
