JICAMA
Jicama is a sweet, nutty root used in Mexican and Central American Cuisine. It's now available in many supermarkets in the US, and it is very popular in Mexico, where it is sold by street vendors as a snack. They are often served topped with a spicy powder (made out of hot peppers) and a drizzle of lime juice.
Use a paring knife to peel the brown outer skin of a jicama, then cut it in half (flat-side down) on your cutting board and slice it into 1/8-inch thick slices.
Use it to add some crunch and sweetness to your salads.
