Baba's Chocolate Kobasa

Hello Poopchik!

You going to love this Ukrainian take on fun, portable chocolate dessert. How easy this recipe is, for elegant and fun result. And is refrigerator recipe. No baking. So I guess you could say is another one of Baba's Lazy recipes!

Ingredients:

▪ 72% dark chocolate, 8 oz (225 gram bar)
▪ Unsalted butter, 1/2 cup
▪ Icing sugar, 1 cup
▪ Egg, one large
▪ Crisp butter, vanilla, tea, biscotti or graham cookies, 8 oz. Should equal one cup when smashed.
▪ Unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 tbsp.
▪ Your favorite nuts: hazelnut, cashew, pistachio, blanched almonds, pine nuts. 1/2 cup total. All one kind or mixed.

Unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 tbsp.

Have two sheets aluminum foil, Saran wrap or cooking parchment ready on counter. This recipe will make one foot long kobasa, or two six inch. Or four three inch, but then what is point? No one like to get short end of sausage!

Make one cup whatever biscuit you like, go BLOOEY! Put cookies in thick plastic bag---Baba use freezer bag---and smash with rolling pin. Not violently. You do not need more dust. Smash with grace, so cookie is in tasty crumbs, like ones you snarfle from bottom of bag.

If you have double boiler, use this to melt chocolate with butter. Or you can boil 1/2'' water in any pot you like, and place heat-safe bowl over boiling water. Stir till ingredients melt, then remove very quick.

Please, Baba beg you, do not microwave chocolate. Good chocolate get strange texture, like so much food in USSR.

Baba Hint: chocolate chips melt faster than bar.

Whisk in your egg, cocoa powder and icing sugar. You will be amazed how much easier it is to bake using icing sugar than granulated, it melt so fast.

Spoon whole thing onto your foil or parchment.

Here is some fun that is good for soul, like you remember when you was kid playing in mud: form this chocolatey mess into kobasa shape. You can use two sheets of plastic or foil to roll this even tighter. Your hands will probably automatically remember forming this shape from plasticine, too!

Twist ends of wrapping, and place in fridge for 3-4 hours, until firm.

Unwrap, and roll in icing sugar if you like. If you don't feel confident rolling this, just sprinkle.

Serve on wooden board with planted kozak knife, as if real kobasa.

Your options:

▪ This is not Ukrainian, but is fun. Mix in 1/2 cup diced marshmallows. If you make this for kids' party or childish adults, use coloured marshmallows.
▪ Mix in 2 tbsp. raisins, what kind you like. You do not have to soak them first, like for my Paska recipe.
