HBL is seeking more transparency by HPD for traffic fatality investigations after 3 alleged negligent homicides on O‘ahu in 2024.

Amplifying Voices for Safe Streets for All and Vision Zero Goals

This month's Advocacy Committee meeting will be held at HBL’s office on June 11th at 5:30 pm. RSVP for complete details and to learn more about ongoing traffic fatality investigations, as well as HBL’s plans to testify at the June 19th meeting of the Honolulu Police Commission. On June 12th there will be a virtual public meeting hosted by the City to present the findings and recommendations of the Draft Oʻahu Vision Zero Action Plan and gather public feedback. Honolulu Council Member Augie Tulba’s Town Hall on June 18th will feature a roundtable discussion about e-bikes as well as an on-bike handling course. Mayor Blangiardi’s upcoming Town Hall meetings are also a great place to advocate for safer cycling and walking in your neighborhood. Finally, HBL has opposed Hawai‘i County Council Bill 125 that seeks to needlessly regulate and prohibit bike tours on Hawai‘i Island.

BikeEd Rocks

Congrats to Chet “the Jet” Blanton on completing his 25th year of being a BikeEd Instructor! 2024 also marks the 35th year of the BikeEd program overall. While enrollment in elementary schools has been declining, we still successfully served about 100 elementary schools and reached nearly 7,000 students across O‘ahu this year. Thank you to HBL and its members for your continued support.
