Mothers, mentors, and powerful women

Happy mothers day wise women

This weekend we celebrate Mothers' Day. I like to think about Mothers' Day not just as a day to remember our own mothers, but a day to recognize and honor all the influential women in our lives. Certainly, our mothers are the first to love us, but there are so many strong women who have nurtured us. These are the women who give us the opportunity to try, comfort us if we fail, and support us as we try again. And again. And again. Mothers and others are our mentors.

They teach us what they know, and their wisdom comes from personal experience as well as from the collective knowledge of the women in their lives - not only their mother, but aunts, sisters, cousins, and friends. So it is, that all women were both mothers and daughters as they lived in community more

Maras Lookalike Knitalong

The beautiful Peruvian Connection catalog arrived in my mailbox recently, and I fell in love with their Maras Cardigan. I knew it would be easy enough to knit, and sure enough, I found a great Amy Herzog design that would be a perfect copycat. We'll knit ours in beautiful self-striping Medina. I'm going to start mine Saturday, May 12th at 1:30. Want to knit along? I'll share with you some of the mods I plan to make so that my sweater will look more like Maras.

Join me for a fun afternoon to get started. It's going to be tons of fun! Click here for more info.

Stash Series - Sweater Quantity

Stash Series - Sweater Quantity

The first in our Stash Series, What to do with what you've got, this class is about Sweater Quantity Stash. In this class we'll look at many multiple skeins of one yarn, commonly referred to as sweater quantities. So often we buy yarn without really having a plan, or we buy with a plan and then plans change. Maybe you realized that you don't actually enjoy knitting lace or cables, or maybe you found out that you just don't like working at that gauge. It happens. It's okay. Things change, but you can adapt, and we will help you learn how. You'll learn how to listen to your yarn and hear what it's telling you about what it wants to be. You'll learn how to figure out whether you have enough yarn to knit a sweater, and if not, how you can knit a sweater with it anyway. More info and to register

A Gentleman in Moscow

May Book Club selection

May Book Club Selection

The May book is A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. I read this book earlier this year and thoroughly enjoyed it. A beautiful story of a Russian aristocrat imprisoned in a Mosow hotel who manages to build a wonderful life and find great happiness despite losing his wealth, position, and liberty. I listened to the audiobook, and the voice actor was absolutely delightful. Although his accent is more
