Sorry did I say Mother-in-law day... scrub that, I meant Dragon Boat Day..
What is Dragon Boat Day? Well good question and as usual far too complicated to really bother with.. but some dude while trying to save China (or what was one of seven states of China called Qin) chucked himself in river and drowned. And now lots of people race dragon boats to try and save him every year. They call it Duan Wu Jie and eat Zongzi which is sticky rice wrapped in triangles of bamboo leafs... everyone eats it, why I have no idea because it is really really boring. I mean just wrapped up rice..
Of course in Yiwu everyday is Christmas Day.. Well according to the BBC, Yiwu is the world centre for tacky Xmas decorations.. according to them it is the very reason Yiwu exists. But let me tell you a secret, the Christmas market is but a tiny part of the market.. In fact the Chinese New Year bit is bigger.. they have sections for almost any celebration world wide..
Here is part of the Yiwu Xmas market.. we are buying nothing tacky (I promise).
