How can we pray for you? We are here to pray with and for you, anytime! Prayer needs sent by early Monday morning will be included in the weekly Joys & Concerns email. We are also glad to send out prayer requests and praise reports anytime throughout the week. | Encouragement Thank you to Marcia Kreps for sharing and Darla Smith for writing these weekly bits of encouragement. "I pray your week has been a blessed one. We got past yesterday’s rain and today is simply gorgeous! Could stay like this year round - would be almost perfect. Finally, I have some red tomatoes in the garden. The yellow ones ripened early but it has taken longer for the reds. Love eating what we have planted. Tastes so much better for sure. My fav is a toasted tomato sandwich - yum!" "My WORD for this week is “SURPRISE.” I am sure I am not alone when I say - sometimes things take me by surprise. And when this happens, we have two ways to handle it. One would be to be anxious, worry, wonder, fret, be fearful - then the other way would be remaining calm, cool, and collected. Hmmm, I am sure the Holy Spirit would love for us to choose the second way. Casting all our cares on Him - He cares for us! Be calm, not fearing what tomorrow brings - He holds tomorrow. Keep our thoughts captive and in line with what He wants us to think on - His thoughts are not our thoughts. Not everyone likes “surprises” either. Even good ones. That may make us anxious - be anxious in nothing - take it to Him in prayer. Possibly an illness has you by “surprise” - He paid the price for our healing. Maybe a job loss caught you by “surprise” - He cares for the birds of the air and lilies of the field - how much more will He care for us. No matter our “surprise” just know this - Jesus has already walked what we are walking in. He has already experienced everything we may be going through. When something takes us by surprise, let’s just rest in knowing - it is already handled! Have a peaceful week with Him!"<- “The Lord says, My thoughts are not like your thoughts, your ways are not like my ways. Just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” ~ Isaiah 55:8-9 (NCV) ~~~ | Blessing Box Located by the Sanctuary doors, the Blessing Box is always available. This year we are trying something new - meeting in the courtyard between the church and warehouse, hoping it will be more quiet than out front. Park like normal, head into the building, walk straight back past the desk to the hallway, and head out the door. Chairs and canopies will be set up or you can bring your own. | www.goodnessgrows4all.org Our Mission Statement: To cultivate personal, social, and community growth through gardening, education, and opportunity for people of all abilities. | Peach season is here and our crew has been in the kitchen stirring up Peach Habanero Jungle Jam and Peach Lemonade Juicy Jam! These are GG fan favorites and tend to sell fast. Don't miss your chance to get this taste of summer goodness! Everyone took a trip to Huffman Fruit Farm on Monday to buy the best peaches in our area for the jam. Then we went back to day to get peaches for the CSA shares. Yum Of course we spent plenty of time outside this week as well. Weeds don't take a break so neither can we! We also spent time in the woods, checking on trees and picking blackberries and elderberries. Today's outside time was, of course, CSA harvesting. Our pickers spent two hours outside in the rain. Then the sun came out when they came back into the building! This Saturday, we Flea! Kitty will be there from 9am-3pm, with jams and catnip toys. Tons of other local vendors, makers, and artisans will be there. Something for everyone, right in downtown Youngstown. | Jungle Jam & Juicy Jam Available at Reach for the STARS in Salem, in Columbiana at Living Luxe Designs, and here at GG. GG is licensed through the state of Ohio as a Department of Developmental Disabilities service provider, offering training in life and job skills for adults with disabilities. We're paid for this work by the state and can use that money to pay staff, buy supplies, go on field trips, develop programming, etc. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to use that money to pay our clients for their work here. Our crew cares for the property, farms, cleans the building, makes jam & catnip toys, and even sets up for special events. In order to bring in enough money to pay GG's clients for all their hard work, we sell items here and at markets/shows/businesses. As a small non-profit, we also depend upon generous supporters who give monetarily every month, every year, or occasionally. (Every bit makes a big difference!) Sometimes we even do fundraisers, like the candle sale of the last few years. This fall, we are trying an event out in the community to hopefully raise awareness about what we do and to bring in more monetary support for our programs. Save the date - October 28 from 6-9pm - and join us at ill will for a fun fall evening! | OUTREACH & MISSION OPPORTUNITIES | Goodness Grows The non-profit ministry of CGCC, Goodness Grows is always busy on our property.
