Families & Activists Call For Boycott Of New York Post

WHAT: Protest & Speakout
WHERE: In front of 1204 6th Ave (between 47th & 48th St)
WHEN: Wednesday November 4th at 6:00pm
WHO: Families of Police Brutality Victims plus other groups.

November 4, 2015 (New York, NY) – Families of victims of police brutality will be joined by activists and groups aligned with the #RiseUpOctober: Which Side Are You On? movement to urge a boycott of the New York Post.

Last week the Post ran a front page story slandering peaceful protesters who marched in the thousands through midtown Manhattan to draw attention to a national epidemic of police violence as part of #RiseUpOctober: Which Side Are You On? On their cover they published a photograph of Joshua Lopez.

Lopez, who is calling for the boycott, is the nephew of John Collado, an unarmed man who was shot to death by an NYPD detective in 2012. Collado's killer, Detective James Connolly, was never indicted or punished for the death.

If peaceful protesters can't express their 1st amendment right to protest without being targeted by the media, then it's not only police officers that aren't being held accountable--it's the news media as well. This is why Lopez and other family members, like Nicholas Heyward Jr., will call on people of conscience to boycott Rupert Murdoch's notoriously sensationalistic newspaper.

RiseUpOctober: Which Side Are You On? was major unfolding of three days of protests and resistance on October 22, 23 and 24 focused in New York City. On October 22, a reading of names of those killed by law enforcement was solemnly read and broadcasted in the middle of Times Square in New York City. Along with many family members of loved ones killed by police, presenters included prominent persons from the arts, academia and activist communities. On October 24, over 3,000 people, included close to 100 family members of loved ones killed by law enforcement, spoke and marched from Washington Square Park. This event was captured by national and international media and placed the question of police terror in the U.S. on the world stage.
