This Month: Focus on Wall Coverings for Interior Walls: We all love the beautiful exteriors of log homes like the one above. But what are your choices inside? In a log home, the interior of the exterior walls is the inside of the logs. The walls that divide off the rooms (partition walls) are usually 2 X 4 or 2 X 6 frame walls that require a finish wall to be applied to both sides. These wall coverings are discussed (and mostly shown) in this months Oak Leaf. Lots of photos in this issue!

Log Cabin 2 Go For Sale: We have one for sale for immediate delivery. Click here for videos of the cabin. Call 800-654-9253 for details and pricing.

Trivia Question: Is the direction of the Panama Canal East and West OR North and South?. (See the answer at the end of the newsletter.)

Drywall behind the stairs accents the custom log railings and stairs.

Which do I have to use: Drywall or Wood?: Which do you prefer? Because that is the answer! You can use all wood, you can use all drywall, or there is a third choice of a little of both! The living room shown on the right has drywall behind the stairs but the exterior walls, floors, and ceilings are all wood. The photo below has all wood: walls, floors and ceilings.

Flatt.Stairs2Loft

This great room has logs for three walls but the wall behind the stairs is framed. They used 1" thick T&G wood to cover the wall plus wood ceilings.

Colors for Drywall Walls: Don't be afraid to use colors with your wood walls. Below are some walls that have colors that coordinate beautifully with the wood.

Hill.MasterBath

This warm sage green color looks beautiful with wood.

Spiral stair

This dark green wall also accents the Oak spiral staircase.

Nemecek Dining.lowres

This burgundy wall has a textured finish.

Entry 2

Another green wall. (Seems like a lot of people like green!)

Illies.MasterTub.Lowres

This wall has a combination of drywall and stone/tile.

Mstr Bed 1
McMeeken.Bedroom

Plain white looks clean, crisp and cool in this bedroom.

Wallpaper: Although wallpaper has not been as popular in the past 10 years, it is coming back in! If you like to decorate with a theme, wallpaper can be a great addition to that theme.

Combinations: Mixing of drywall with wood ceilings and/or walls can be a very nice way to add color to your wood.

Hill.Catwalk

Wood ceilings, drywall walls, tile flooring, round railings.

Mixing it up: Don't be afraid to mix design elements, like shown below with the round slab (that was found on the property) they used as a decorating element above the door way with the painted wall and the beam ceilings above.

Hill.LogArchinDoorway

All Wood: But don't be afraid to use all wood where you want....

Martino.Oak Staircase

Note that on the wall behind the stairs, they chose to use wood but they angled it to match the angle of the stairs. Very creative!
