Dance for PD® is an internationally-acclaimed program of the Mark Morris Dance Group, conceived collaboratively with the Brooklyn Parkinson Group. The program offers award-winning dance classes for hundreds of people with Parkinson’s in New York City, and fosters classes in more than 250 communities in 24 countries around the world through a network of partners and teaching affiliates trained in the Dance for PD approach, including several established classes in the National Capital area.

In Dance for PD classes and performance projects, people with Parkinson's and their families and care partners are empowered to explore movement and music in ways that are refreshing, enjoyable, stimulating and creative. The Dance for PD teaching approach, supported by 38 peer-reviewed studies, is built on a fundamental premise: professionally-trained dancers are movement experts whose knowledge is useful to persons with PD. Dancers know all about coordinating and strengthening muscles, and about balance and rhythm. Dance for PD utilizes elements of technique, narrative, imagery, live music and community to develop artistry and grace while addressing such PD-specific concerns as balance, flexibility, coordination, isolation and depression.
