Good Shepherd

Today is sometimes called “Good Shepherd Sunday.” Jesus is called the “gate” of the sheep in today’s gospel. The risen Christ opens the way to abundant life. He anoints our heads with oil and guides us beside the still waters of our baptism. Each Sunday he spreads a feast before us in the midst of the world’s violence and war. We go forth to be signs of the resurrection and extend God’s tender care to all creation.

Bread for the World Offering of Letters

bread for the world

The Bread for the World offering of letters is happening now. Each year we hand write letters to our Congress people to urge them to pass legislation that will end world hunger and poverty. Encourage your congressional representatives to ensure funding for SNAP, WIC, and other programs that accomplish this goal. Look for a sample letter to be handed out in the near future as well as more information.

Adult Education

Sunday, May 7 at 9:30 am
Presented by Christa Fisher

These words, spoken by Jesus, have for far too long been understood as a call to charity. Visiting someone in jail is not an act of charity. It is an act of justice.

At our next Adult Education gathering you will learn how and why visiting someone in jail or prison is an act of justice. You will be presented a narrative of incarceration which began hundreds of years ago, with the enslavement of African people, and which continues today with epidemically disproportionate rates of incarceration of our brown- and tan-skinned brothers, sisters and children.

This presentation is a continuation of the conversation begun with Pastor Stephen’s presentations on his Doctor of Ministry work and our efforts towards becoming an authentically inclusive faith community.

African-Centered Presentations

Brochure Front Cover Image

Pastor Stephen will share the work and learning from his Doctor of Ministry studies entitled "African-Centered Religious Thought and Ministry".
Sunday May 21 at 11:00 am at CTSR
We are invited to share worship with Christ the Solid Rock celebrating Pastor Everett Mitchell’s 5th anniversary as pastor, and to experience and share worship in an African American context. This service will follow our Music Appreciation Sunday celebration in our own Lake Edge sanctuary at 9:30 am.
Thursday May 25 at 1:00 & 7:00 pm
We will share Bible study and discussion at 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm
Sunday May 28 at 9:30 am
We will spend some process time together after our
9:30 am worship.
All are welcome to participate in all or parts of these scheduled events. Pastor Stephen would be glad to engage in conversations that would help expand understandings about congregational efforts and goals concerning these presentations and projects.

Vacation Bible School Giving Tree

VBS2017

We are blessed to be offering Vacation Bible School again this year, in partnership with Christ the Solid Rock Church! You are invited to help “sponsor” part of the program. Help fill our giving tree during the month of May!

Examples of sponsorship opportunities include:
* $10 will buy reusable water bottles for 10 kids;
* $15 will purchase a VBS theme t-shirt for a child;
* $20 will support a counselor’s meals for a day;
* $100 will provide a day of lunches & snacks for the kids;
* Any amount can be given to furnish art and craft supplies.

In fact, no amount is too small or too large; any gift is appreciated! The above are just suggested options. Your gifts can be given the next four Sundays. Look for the giving tree in the narthex! Any gifts given in excess of expenses for 2017, will be carried forward to help support VBS in 2018, when we are expected to receive less funding from the church. And, if you cannot contribute monetarily, we would welcome your time and talents, as we are still in need
of volunteers!

VBS Registration Forms are now available.
The registration deadline is May 14th.

Sunday School Storage Room

clean out help me

In order to prepare an office space for Christa Fisher, who is now on staff as our Youth Pastor, a team has begun cleaning out the small room off of the youth room. This space has been used for Sunday School storage and various other purposes. If you have put anything in that room for storage, please claim and remove it. The door will be left unlocked this morning and next Sunday. Anything that is left in the room after May 15 will be disposed of. Thank you for your help!
