WHAT ARE ESSENTIAL OILS?

Essentials oils are organic compounds extracted from plants with extraordinary healing and protective properties. Aromatherapy is the term used to describe the use of essential oils for therapeutic purposes and is a type of holistic treatment that can help improve physical, mental and emotional stress. Essential oils are highly concentrated oils that are extracted directly from the bark, flower, fruit, leaf, seed or root of a plant or tree. They are generally created through distillation that separates the oil and water from the plant by steaming. These oils naturally occur in the plant to protect them from insects, predators and the environment. Just one drop can posses powerful benefits.

ESSENTIAL OIL USES AND DO IT YOURSELF RECIPES

Essential Oils can be used:
TOPICALLY - according to scientific testing, any substance with a molecular weight (m) below 1000m can be absorbed by the skin. Essential oils have been shown to have a very small size and weight less than 1000m, therefore they are able to penetrate the skin and pass into the blood stream for therapeutic benefits.
The best way to use oils topically are to apply them directly to the bottom of the feet or on the temples. *Always use a small amount of a carrier oil (coconut or almond oil) since the high concentration of the oil may irritate sensitive skin. DIY Focus Blend
* 2 drops Citrus Blend
* 2 drops Lavender
* 2 drops Peppermint
* 1 drop Coconut or Almond oil
* Apply to temples, massaging in circles

AROMATICALLY - Inhaling essential oils allows the small molecules to enter the bloodstream because of the large amount of blood vessels within the lungs. These vessels absorb the oil and circulate them throughout the body. Use of a diffuser will circulate the scent much like an air freshener and will provide the benefits of stress reduction with lavender, cleaning the air with lemon, improving respiratory issues with eucalyptus, and memory, focus and brain function with peppermint and rosemary.
*A few drops of essential oils in the palm of the hands, rubbed together and cupped over the nose is another technique to use for aromatic inhalation.

PERSONAL CARE - Essential oils have gained much recognition recently in DIY personal care products. DIY Hand Sanitizer
* 5 Tablespoons 99% pure Aloe Vera Gel
* 4 Tablespoons distilled Water
* 1/4 teaspoon Vitamin E Oil
* 8-10 drops On Guard Essential Oil
* 8-10 drops Lemon Essential Oil (optional)
if using lemon oil, use a glass bottle or high quality plastic
* Combine Vitamin E Oil, Aloe Vera Gel and On Guard
* Add Water and mix well and add additional water for desired consistency.
* Place in container
