Le Mile End s’articule: OLÉ! (May 18 - June 30, 2018)
Call for Artists, Performances, Workshops and Games
Deadline: March 12, 2018
Send proposals to: mes.articule2018@gmail.com
Le Mile End s’articule is a summer outdoor community arts festival, revolving this year around the theme of games, play, and sport! With the support of the Arrondissement du Plateau-Mont-Royal, this summer's edition will provide a schedule of activities over six weeks, and will include festivities in articule's alley, along Fairmount Avenue, and in local parks and fields of Mile End. Playing with the concurrent exhibition at articule, WORLD CUP!, curated by Amber Berson, the festival will present creative and critical responses to the world of games and sport at the intersection of art and performance. Kicking around are concepts such as: competition, anthems, nationalism, play, the material culture of sports (including uniforms, costumes, and equipment), interactivity, the gender pay gap, team and fan dynamics, training, athleticism, collective consciousness, critical sports studies, and more! Le Mile End s’articule is committed to creative reuse and the reduction of waste in artistic practices, and aims to promote environmentally-friendly approaches through community involvement in our shared streets and parks.
Call for Projects, Performances, Workshops and Activities
Artists, athletes, gamers, sports fans, and community members are encouraged to submit ideas for activities to take place between May 18 and June 30, 2018. These could include workshops, outdoor art, performances, carnival games, board games, participatory talks, readings or discussions, artistic collaborations with the public, or whatever you can dream up!
Potential locations for activities include:
- the alleyway beside articule
- local parks/sports fields/schoolyards
- terraces on the sidewalk and street along Fairmount Avenue
- other public spaces in the Arrondissement du Plateau-Mont-Royal
All activities should be family friendly, deal with themes of sport, play, games and performance, and keep in mind a creative reuse of materials.
Special call: Installation in the Alleyway
Le Mile End s’articule is looking for installation proposals to animate the alleyway beside articule for a one-day special event. Submissions should keep to the theme of the festival, and adhere to the same submission guidelines (see below).
All selected participants (activities and installation) will receive a $250 honorarium, and articule’s support in sourcing recycled/reusable materials.
Submission Guidelines
All submissions should be sent to mes.articule2018@gmail.com with the subject line “Submission: Le Mile End s’articule 2018” by March 12th, 2018.
Please attach a document including: your contact information, a title for your project, a 50-word biography, a 150-word project statement, a list of technical needs, plus 3-5 images (attached as .jpegs) if relevant, plus a descriptive list of the images (.docx). In your project statement, please address who the activities are geared towards, the length in time of the activity, the proposed location of the activity, its proposed dimensions, and how you will ecologically source or re-use materials.
In keeping with articule’s ongoing work towards anti-oppression, programming will prioritize submissions by and for diverse groups, representative of our community at large.
