JAVA VILLAGE NEWSLETTER SUMMER 2022

A visit to the village

Our chairperson Mies Grijns was recently able to go the village for the first time since the Covid-19 epidemic broke out. Mies will report on her visit, and also about the first three Maria Peters Scholarship girls who are starting their senior secondary school education, in our next Newsletter. Meanwhile, here are some photos of her visit.

dank voor de laptop Java Village

Mies, together with our Indonesian fieldworker Titi, handed over a laptop to members of the forum Cut Nyak Dien that monitors the three saving groups in the village. They were very pleased with it and on video, after much hilarious practising, they expressed their gratitude by saying in Dutch: "Bedankt voor de laptop Java Village" (Thank you for the laptop, Java Village)

Despite the bad weather -lots of rain and wind- on June 6 during the World Fair at the Museum Volkenkunde (Museum of Ethnology) in Leiden, the delicious Indonesian food made by Silvy, Ary and their team was greatly enjoyed by the many people who visited the Java Village stall, resulting in nearly 1400 Euro being raised! It will be allocated to our SaS project. Java Village is extremely pleased with this result and would like to thank all the volunteers for their very enthusiastic input on that not so summery day.

Become a SaS Sponsor!

Please do not forget our Sponsor a Student project. This ongoing project supports young pupils so that they can continue their education after primary school. The village doesn't have a secondary school and many families cannot afford the cost of going to a school outside the village. The Sponsor a Student project helps these families. Since the beginning of the project in 2008 Java Village has already helped 130 pupils to go to a junior high school. You can support a student by donating €12,50 per month or €150 per year. Please go to our website for additional information about how you can become a SaS sponsor.
