The Transportation Policy Board of the Alamo Area MPO normally meets on the 4th Monday of each month. However, during the months of November and December, due to the holiday season, the Board meeting is combined into an early December meeting.

This year, the Board will meet on Monday, December 8, 2014 starting at 1:30 PM at the VIA Metro Center located at 1021 San Pedro Avenue, San Antonio, TX 78212.

At this meeting, the Board will be presented with the recommended twenty-five year long range plan for our region, Mobility 2040. The long range plan has been under development since 2013 and represents over a billion dollars in new projects across our region.

With 34 new non-toll projects being recommended for inclusion to help address needs across the region, and 6 new managed lane projects being recommended, Mobility 2040 is a step forward in helping address the congestion that will come with an anticipated one million new residents who are expected to call our community home over the next twenty-five years.

It is important to note, however, that including projects in the long range plan does not guarantee those projects will be funded and constructed. Inclusion in the long range plan means the implementing or sponsoring agency can begin development of the project through environmental analysis and clearance and related pre-construction activities. Only when a project is included in the Transportation Improvement Program (or TIP) is the construction scheduled and funded.

The agenda and meeting package are available online.

Come learn the rules of the road - Street Skills classes start in January!

New to city cycling? Returning to bicycling from a long hiatus? Just want to be more in tune with bike progress in the Alamo Area or become more confident riding on streets?

The MPO’s new Street Skills class is a free, 45-minute program for adults and mature teens who want to understand where they fit on the street. It will cover important street riding information in a quick, off-bike session.

Join fellow bicyclists (and bicycling new-comers) to learn from the MPO’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation Planner in an informal, classroom-style presentation and discussion. The MPO’s Street Skills class will provide concrete examples of city cycling scenarios and how best to handle them so that you enjoy pleasant, stress-free rides.

Each class participant will receive a helmet and bike light set, thanks to funding through a 2015 TxDOT Safety Grant. Advance registration is requested of all participants; walk-in students are welcome but are not guaranteed a helmet and light set.

Street Skills classes are open to adults and teens who are at least 14 years old. Participants between 14 and 18 years old must attend with a legal guardian.

To register for our first class, which is being held on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 starting at 5:00 P.M. , please click on the link below.

Texas Department of Motor Vehicles

The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles is encouraging everyone to take precautions to protect their valuables and vehicles during shopping and traveling this holiday season.

The Auto Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles offers these holiday tips for your safety.

Keep shopping bags and boxes out of sight or stored in the trunk. Do the same for other valuables, like cellphones, laptops, CDs, purses and wallets. Think about removing loose change from the console or cup holder. Bring anything that might tempt thieves inside your home or office - even when parking your cart for a short time at a place that you assume is safe.
Never leave an idling car unattended. On cold days, when people tend to warm up their vehicles, secure your car and avoid becoming a victim of auto theft.
Even if you are running into a store for a moment, be sure to lock your vehicle. And always keep your keys with you.
Safeguard your home through your vehicle. Keep garage door openers in the glove compartment or hidden, and avoid leaving mail or insurance forms visible. These can help thieves obtain your address.
Use a car alarm if possible and leave your vehicle in busy, well-lit spots.
