Finally guests on Makutsi again!

We sent our last newsletter from quarantine, which unfortunately took a lot longer than we expected: From mid-March to mid-November there were no guests on Makutsi! But now the first guests have arrived - just a handful - and are enjoying the calm, but hopeful atmosphere to the fullest.

In December, a few more guests arrive so that we can offer a fun gathering in small groups on Christmas and New Year's Eve: in line with the current measures that also apply here.

Current entry regulations

Speaking of current measures: Since November 12th, South Africa has lifted the entry restrictions and guests are allowed to travel from abroad. However, there are some conditions: for example, a negative COVID-19 test result (PCR test) must be presented upon entry. Since these conditions are constantly changing, we prefer to send you official links for the latest information:

https://www.gov.za/covid-19/individuals-and-households/travel-coronavirus-covid-19

The conditions upon return to your respective countires (whether quarantine is necessary or not) are also constantly changing and differ from state to state. So it is necessary to find out the latest information before the trip.

Standardised hygiene protocols are implemented nationwide and integrated into everyday life. We also have a hygiene concept on Makutsi, which you can find on our website: https://www.makutsi.com/covid19/

Renovation work in camp

We used the "guest-free" time to do some renovations in camp.

The second river lapa is ready and we are currently working on a connection between the two lapas. There is now definitely enough space to keep your distance!

The path from the office to the pool has been renewed. In addition, the swimming pool has also been repainted.

Our wildlife family is growing

There are now three wild dogs in the Karongwe Reserve (Makutsi South). The antelopes are certainly not too happy about it, but we hope that the wild dogs will settle in well anyway.

On the "Makutsi North" side we released a few sable antelopes.

In addition, there were of course a few offspring on Makutsi, for example two rhinoceros calves, who saw the light of day in September and October 2020.

Guest photos

As always, we would like to share some nice pictures of our guests with you. This time a few pictures of Gerhard Schlereth who was a guest at Makutsi for 5 weeks in February / March 2020 just before the borders were closed: Thank you very much, Mr. Schlereth!

Lastly, we would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and hope that we can see you on Makutsi in 2021 or 2022.

Your Makutsi Team!
