Recently the nation saw provincial elections in both PEI and Alberta. Both of these elections resulted in provincial governments which would be considered more "socially liberal" in ideology. Only time will tell how each will navigate the many social issues facing their provinces.
Some of you have been contacting us asking for our input on how to respond in light of these election results. Our position this: once a leader or a party is elected the most important thing we can do is pray for their hearts to be swayed by Holy Spirit to make Godly decisions and that they would come to know Him if they do not already. 1 Timothy 2:1-4 states it this way:
"Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth."
We invite you to join us in praying for the new governments in both Alberta and PEI.
BRIEF COMMENTARY ON THESE TWO ELECTIONS:
PEI:
The Liberal Party won a majority government in PEI with Wade MacLauchlan being set in as the new premier. Premier MacLauchlan has a season law background and is now the first openly gay premier in Canada.
In the wake of much controversy over the province's lack of access to abortion, Premier MacLauchlan has maintained that he has no plans to change the status quo. At the same time he has stated that he is willing to "open the discussion" regarding access and education surrounding abortion. Click here to read more.
It is unclear where such a "discussion" might lead. Please join us in praying that PEI remains an abortion free province.
ALBERTA:
Alberta saw historic provincial election results on May 5th where the NDP government won the majority vote for the first time, ending a 44 year run for the Conservative Party there. Most of those elected (49 out of 53) have never held provincial office before. The province's new premier is NDP leader Rachel Notley.

ONE MORE: ONTARIO'S PC PARTY ELECTION:
On May 10th Ontario elected their new Conservative leader Patrick Brown. Mr. Brown was previously a federal MP and has a very strong socially conservative voting record. If elected as Ontario's next Premier Brown is promising to scrap Kathleen Wynne's radical sex education curriculum. We encourage you to pray for favour upon him and wisdom for him as he steps into this new leadership position.
