We spent time on a devotional, read Psalm 150, and listened to Chris Tomlin's Forever. We roasted hot dogs and marshmallows, played games, enjoyed each other's company, and prayed for this upcoming school year. It was a perfect summer evening! | Youth Group Service Day with Goodness Grows Many hands really do make light work! Thank you to everyone who dove into this service project with us. Special thanks go to Mike Ashby for all his work on designing, prepping, and carrying out this project. Our youth had a blast working with you and learning some tricks of the stone mason trade. Whether working or playing, we always enjoy our time together! In 3 hours, our crew laid out a patio and walkways, harvested tomatoes, ate lunch, and spent some time in conversation and prayer. It was a marvelous way to wind up this unusual summer and start sending our youth back to school covered in prayer. | Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. ~ Galatians 6:2 | Prayer For whom are you praying today? Please take a minute to send in your prayer needs by early Monday mornings for inclusion in the weekly Joys & Concerns email. We are also glad to send out prayer requests and praise reports anytime throughout the week! | Encouragement Today's encouragement comes from Darla Smith. Thank you to Marcia Kreps for sharing Darla's uplifting words with us. My word for today is SURPRISE! This meaning can be good surprise or bad surprise. It can be in celebration or in sorrow. Some of us are planners so, when surprises get mixed in, that may cause us to become anxious. We have all experienced some kind of surprise in our lives this year as well as in the past. Just know whatever has surprised you has never been a surprise to God. He has walked the path before we even think to walk it. He goes before us to guide our steps. He surrounds us with His Holy Spirit to keep us protected. He prepares our table in the midst of the enemy. HE LOVES US! Know today whatever has been your SURPRISE - it is no surprise to our God. Be encouraged, uplifted, refreshed, renewed, restored, loved by your Heavenly Father. God is saying to us - "come up higher - rest in me." Next time a not so good SURPRISE comes your way - just whisper - God already has this handled for me. “Be strong. Take courage. Don’t be intimidated. Don’t give them a second thought because God, your God, is striding ahead of you. He’s right there with you. He won’t let you down; he won’t leave you.” Deuteronomy 31:6 (The Message) | New Quarterly Devotional Available The next Our Daily Bread devotional has arrived.
