2018 Autumn eNews red

Hi Member,

My brain feels like it's full of cotton wool - yes that is the subject line of this week's eNews. Is there a medical term for such a feeling I wonder? The only reason I mention it is because of said afflication, I am unable to come up with another subject line for this eNews. I don't want to give you the idea the content is nothing but air and fluff because it's not - it's just my head that feels that way.

In fact, this week there are two blog posts to help you out. The first is from Dr Dave Nicol with 5 tips to help improve your recruitment of new grads - although the tips are just as important no matter what the position is you're recruiting for! The second post is nice and short - a reminder that it's time for a bit of housekeeping on your website. Specifically, it's time to tidy up your broken links using a nice, easy, free, online tool.

Last week we asked for 10 minutes of your time to complete an online survey on veterinarians' views of pet owners' use of the internet for pet health information. This week it would be a great help if you could share a new link with your clients and ask them to take part in the other side of the research - scroll down to find out more.

Also this week the 2018 VNCA Vet Nurse & Student Vet Nurse of the Year nominations are now open. You can find out more below as well as a link to the online nomination form.

I've also come across an interesting resource: Vet Oncologist - Online Consultation Service. There are some really great resources on their website for both you and your clients - find out more below.

See? There's nothing fluffy about that lot is there?

Our aim is to help you - save time, connect & discover!

Enjoy your reading :)

Do you know how many broken links are on your veterinary practice website?

Broken website links – what's the problem with them anyway? Well apart from not looking very professional when a client clicks on them, they also don’t do great things for your Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). Here's an easy way to clean them up.

Clients using the internet for pet health info...

What do your clients think?

Last week we asked you to help out research by completing a survey on your thoughts when your clients used the internet to access pet care information. You can read more about the survey here: Australian Survey: veterinarians’ views of pet owners’ use of the internet for pet health info

This week we're asking you to help out the research by sharing a link with your clients.

What is this research about?

Dr Lori Kogan is a researcher at Colorado State University working with James Oxley, an independent researcher and Dr Susan Hazel, a senior lecturer at the University of Adelaide. Together they are currently trying to find out information about how pet owners use the internet for pet health information.

Little research has looked at the use of the internet by pet owners in relation to pet health and therefore they would like to investigate this area in more detail. They feel that more research would help inform veterinarians and develop detailed guidelines for pet owners who wish to find more information on the internet.

Who is eligible to take part?

They are asking for pet owners who live in Australia and are 18 years or older.

Here's the link to the survey to share with your clients: https://colostate.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_40LgJDrBDQQ4aj3

Love this suggestion from Seth Godin

Missing from your job description

By Set Godin

Seth suggests this checklist could be good to add to your job description if you work in an office but I think most things on the list could help any environment you may work in - especially the last one :)

Wouldn't be great if we all worked together to tick all the boxes on the checklist?

Seth's suggestions:

▪ Add energy to every conversation
▪ Ask why
▪ Find obsolete things on your task list and remove them
▪ Treat customers better than they expect
▪ Offer to help co-workers before they ask
▪ Feed the plants
▪ Leave things more organized than you found them
▪ Invent a moment of silliness
▪ Highlight good work from your peers
▪ Find other great employees to join the team
▪ Cut costs
▪ Help invent a new product or service that people really want
▪ Get smarter at your job through training or books
▪ Encourage curiosity
▪ Surface and highlight difficult decisions
▪ Figure out what didn't work
▪ Organize the bookshelf
▪ Start a club
▪ Tell a joke at no one's expense
▪ Smile a lot.
