Fake it till youmake it

Hi there,
Last week, my daughter Katie, said that in December she will have been with her current company for a year and a half. I asked her if it felt like a long time or a short time, and she laughed and said, "Both!" She knows it's not a really long time in the grand scheme of things, but she said it has been a long time in terms of what she's learned. She said, "When I first got there, I just did whatever Katina told me to do without a sense of the big picture. You know, kinda fake it till you make it. But now I get it. I know what to do when, and I see how what I do fits into the organization as a whole. It all makes sense, and I like that I can really contribute."

As a mom, I was super proud, of course, and her concept of fake it till you make it rattled around in my brain for a while. I thought about how much we do that with our knitting. As a newer knitter, we usually have to be shown again and again. And we have to have someone check often, asking, "Is this right?" Then all of a sudden, it clicks. We can tell the difference continue reading

All the fun things going on!

Millou Cardigan

Join Jenny for here Millou Cardigan knitalong. This is a great cardigan with an easy fit and modern shape, but what really makes it special is the fabric. Lovely Mt. Vernon merino plus a strand of laceweight kid mohair silk makes a perfectly delicious fabric. It looks delicate, but is surprisingly sturdy and looks even better after a trip through the washing-machine. You won't believe what a difference that tiny strand of mohair silk makes. Takes 5 skeins Mt. Vernon and either 4 skeins of Rowan Kidsilk Haze or 3 skeins of Shibui Silk Cloud.

Worked on a US size 10, this is a fast, easy knit.

Learn to knit with this easy baby blanket

Lots of beginners start with baby blanket because they're simple, soft, and small. This one is all of those, and especially dreamy to knit in cozy Cumulus cotton from Juniper Moon. Soft as a cloud it's absolutely lovely to knit with, and a perfect fiber for baby's tender skin.

Join Gina Tuesday evenings to knit a cozy blanket for a sweet little one in your life, on the way, or in your dreams. Four evening sessions. Yarn for the softest baby blanket in the world is included. more info

Tuesday nights 6-8 pm, starting November 27th.

Dryad Cabled Scarf

Cables, those lovely sinewy patterns you see on Celtic knit sweaters and accessories. They can be as simple as two stitches and four rows and as complicated as, well, as complicated as an Irish Fisherman Knit sweater. But cables are all just stitches worked out of order. The trick is really just understanding the language of the pattern and keeping track of where you are. As a bonus in this class, Ginni will show you how to correct a missed or miss-crossed cable rows down without unknitting the whole thing - that's worth the cost of the class just by itself!

In this class, Ginni, knitter of dozens of cabled things, will show you all the tricks as you work the more

Kims mitten

Thrummed mittens are hands down (hehe) the warmest thing you can put on your hands. They're beautiful on the outside with their sweet dot pattern, but the sweet secret is that thrummed mittens are lined with big ole hunks of roving that trap the air and keep your fingers super toasty.

In this class, Jenny will teach you how to make your very own pair of thrummed mittens. They're pretty fast to knit, so you still have time to more info and to register

I am so pleased to bring you a cool trunk show from Arnica, of ArnicArt, an exclusive line of wearable fiber art bags and garments. Arnika is a classic upcycle fiber artist, turning vintage garments into chic bags and totes embellished with textile collage and needle felting. Her style aesthetic is modern classic, which fits right in with what we like to knit and what we like to carry. I love that her pieces are a all one of fashion statement - kind of like a hand-knit sweater. Be sure to come get one of Arnicka's bags either as a gift or as a treat for yourself -- or maybe one of each!

You still have a chance to join me on a fabulous Viking River Cruise through the Bordeaux region of France - home of legendary castles, chateaux, and wine. I'm not big cruise ship kinda girl, but this is a small, luxury ship built for the Gironde, a very small waterway where the Dordogne and Garonne Rivers meet. I've always wanted to do a trip like this -- it's going to be amazing! We'll have beautiful sights, delicious food, and legendary wine. If you are thinking of signing up, there is still space.
