Last Call for MACUL

If you are interested in being included in the group registration for MACUL, please be sure to complete our registration form by Thursday, February 22. We plan to submit our group registration on Friday, February 23. Participants will still be able to sign up for the bus after this date, though.

The MACUL Conference, Michigan's premier educational technology event, will be held March 13-15 at the DeVos Place in Grand Rapids, MI. Thousands of Michigan educators attend this conference annually and another great turnout is anticipated!

REMC1 recognizes the value of this conference and is collaborating with several local organizations, including MTU's Gear UP, to help UP teachers attend the event.

In order to receive the group discounted registration, REMC1 will need to register you with MACUL (DO NOT REGISTER ON MACUL's WEBSITE). Instead, please see our MACUL Registration & Bus Form. Please note, you will still need to book your hotel accommodations (nights of 3/13 & 3/14) on your own via MACUL's Conference Hotel Web page.

Computer Disk Space Awareness

As part of our ongoing efforts to maintain optimal performance and efficiency across our systems, we conduct monthly disk space reports (computer’s hard drive storage) on all computers using KACE. This proactive approach allows us to identify any potential issues, particularly when free computer disk space drops to 15% or less. Computers with low free disk space are unable to perform necessary software and security updates and can develop performance problems that can be detrimental to both the user experience and computer stability.

For teacher and school administrator computers, where storage demands tend to be higher due to various tasks and files, we may need to coordinate with users to address space limitations. If you receive a notification about your computer's disk space, here are some steps you can take to alleviate the issue:

▪ Move Files to Google Drive: Google Workspace for Education accounts have a large storage capacity and files stored in Google Drive cloud storage are accessible from various locations and computing devices. Drive also includes an offline feature that allows file access when the computer is not connected to the Internet. This feature is not recommended for desktop computers that are connected to the network but can be useful for laptops that are frequently used offsite.
▪ Move Files to H:\ Drive: Consider relocating local files to the H:\ drive (home folder), if available. If you don't have a designated home folder, don't worry – we can create one for you. One significant advantage of using the home folder is that your files are automatically backed up, ensuring they can be recovered if needed.
▪ Clear Downloads Directory: Delete unnecessary files from your downloads directory to free up additional space.
▪ Remove Old or Unused Files: Take the time to identify and delete any old or unused files that are taking up valuable disk space.
▪ Empty Recycle Bin: Ensure that your recycle bin is emptied to fully reclaim disk space. Remember, restarting your computer is necessary to complete this process as disk space won't be freed until then.
