Miriam Linna & Marc Miller at Kicksville USA

Welcome to our first installment of the Kicksville News-Flash! Let's get you all caught up on happenings here at Kicksville, where the worlds of Norton, Kicks and Crashing The Party knock noggins and storm ahead. We've got lots to announce and miles to go before we sleep, so read on!

Crashing The Party This Week!!

Crashing The Party barrels ahead with our 96th episode this week. Focused exclusively on 50's and 60's vocal groups, hosts Marc and Miriam duel with sets of personal favorites. Our super engineer Matt Clarke is our silent partner in crime with the show, which comes to you Thursdays at 6PM EST on Luxuria Radio, Sundays on The Hound NYC at 5PM EST and also on Ambush Radio in three time zones in Europe (London, Berlin, Athens). All of our shows are available with playlists at the Crashing The Party website, with links to our affiliates.

Kicksville Radio Is On The Way!

The big news is our coming launch this summer of Kicksville Radio, in advance of the publication of Kicks 8 this winter. The 24/7 station will feature our keynote programme with the same name, blasting records and telling the stories behind our own brand of stellar wax and who made these slabs back in the day, with unissued material and unheard interviews from all the stars (and they're ALL stars) from the world we all share in the pages of Kicks, the grooves of Norton, the shellac of Crashing The Party, and new back-stories of the origins of beat groups inWaterloo Underground-- and the wide world of record mania that we all love to share. Kicksville Radio will be the audio arm for Kicks -- pretty much exclusively 50's and 60's sounds that were reissued for the first time (or discovered and issued for the first time) on Norton, or the stories told for the first time in issues of Kicks. You may know that Kicks mag was hatched in 1979, with the 7th issue appearing in 1992. It's been 30 years. Time for a new Kicks, and we're packing it to the eye teeth, with flashes and tribs to as many artists, labels, and scenes as can be squished in one ish. The dream is to make this a point of contact for this world of music that we are all proud to protect and share and preserve. You may never hear our stuff elsewhere, but you will hear it around the clock on Kicksville Radio. The legends and lore of our forgotten, unlauded heroes shall be delivered via the dim-lit back alleys, suburban bike racks, and ramshackle basement studios of music history.

The Velvet Underground At The Boston Tea Party

We've been keeping this under wraps for a long while, but we have acquired the 1968-1969 tape recordings of the performances of the Velvet Underground at the Boston Tea Party and the Hilltop Pop Festival and have been negotiating for their proper release here in the US. That effort continues. You may see bootlegs of these show, but they are taped from a radio broadcast years ago. We are deep into a book (coming from Kicks Books) tentatively titled The Velvet Underground At The Boston Tea Party, with an introduction and photos from Jonathan Richman, who was a teenage fan in attendance, osmosing every iota of electricity from other planets! The book includes the full story from the surviving fan who made these recordings as a a student in Boston and includes, OMG, lost recordings never heard or issued before. Sshhh! That's all we can tell you right now!

Greasers! Rockers!

Our next photo book is a glorious first look at 50's Swiss rockers/greasers who were immortalized by photog Karlheinz Weinberger - this is an intimate scrapbook of snapshots by Igel and the bad seeds themselves, and the incredible story that went alongside their lives in greaserdom. Huge thanks to Rolf Rieben and the gang of Swiss pals for making this happen. Layout and design by Eliz Van Itallie who produced our classy last book MIND OVER MATTER.

Kicks Kometh!

You've been waiting, and you'll wait some more as we get everything crammed into this 30-years-later final issue of Kicks magazine. We are working with layout/illo king Tommy Bishop on this action packed issue. The cover mockup to right will change just a little but we are shooting from the hip with this sucker. And all, let us repeat ALL, of the torrid tales herein will be yapped about on Kicksville Radio with tunes aplenty. Huge thanks to all involved.

HURRICANE SANDY • 10 YEARS

This Halloween will mark ten years since Hurricane Sandy devastated the East Coast of our fair land. Norton Records and Kicks Books were among the casualties. Many of you around the world supported us through the nightmare -- don't want to say how many times it has felt like there was no hope, but there is always hope where there is activity, even if that activity is only in the mind. The thing that has kept us all going is music. It's our belief that the "loud sound" makes the world go round. We will be recalling details from Sandy days on Kicksville later this year.
