City of Kingston passed Climate Emergency Resolution

city of kingston logo

With very little fanfare and surprisingly no public announcement, the Common Council passed Resolution #100 of 2022 on May 3rd. Kingston Transition members were instrumental in drafting the Resolution.
“Now, therefore, be it Resolved, the Common Council of the City of Kingston pledges to work toward creating a Climate Justice Plan that treats the international climate crisis as a crisis of community… and will seek to align the City's climate justice work to the state and federal definitions of climate justice communities and to go beyond those definitions to add factors such as historical inequities, homeownership, financial inclusion, and access to health, education and unemployment benefits..”
This three page resolution (click here to read the final version) does not force the Common Council to do anything, but it can be used as a benchmark, both by members of the Council and those reviewing their decisions.
