About this workshop

This professional development workshop will provide critical tools, advanced strategies and information relating to Dance for Parkinson's teaching practice. Open to practitioners who have or will have completed the Dance for PD® Introductory Training by October 15, the workshop will integrate global best practices in developing and implementing this unique program. Specialised training, guest speakers and peer mentoring will form the basis of the learning experience, which will also include time for practical activity, discussion, exchange, networking and a social get-together. This workshop is a pre-requisite to eligibility for the Dance for PD®Certification program.

Highlights: Class content exchange, challenges and resolutions, administrative/logistical best practices, peer mentoring, specialized training, guest speakers, networking

Credits: Earn 15 advanced training credits toward the 20 professional development credits required to be eligible for Dance for PD certification. Attend at least one day of the introductory training workshop offered in Melbourne 13-14 October and receive an additional 5 advanced training credits to meet the full training requirement.

AU$299 (ex GST) Standard Rate
AU$279 (ex GST) for Ausdance/Dance for PD Members

Please note that tuition does not include accommodations, which should be booked independently. If you have already participated in an introductory workshop, you may join all or part of the 13-14 October introductory sessions for a flat rate of AU$67 (ex GST) to earn an additional 5 continuing education credits (you'll be able to add this option when you process your registration).

About Dance for PD®

Dance for PD® offers dance classes for people with Parkinson’s disease in Brooklyn, New York and, through our network of partners and associates, in more than 250 other communities in 25 countries around the world. Key global partners include Dance for Parkinson's Australia, the Dance for Parkinson's Network UK and Dancing with Parkinson's (Toronto) as well as organizations like Houston Ballet, English National Ballet, GOTRA Ballet (Netherlands), Canada's National Ballet School, and Queensland Ballet. In Dance for PD® classes, participants are empowered to explore movement and music in ways that are refreshing, enjoyable, stimulating and creative. Founded as a collaboration between the Mark Morris Dance Group, Brooklyn Parkinson Group and Olie Westheimer, the Dance for PD® program also provides teacher training and nurtures relationships among other organizations so that classes based on our model are widely available. The Dance for PD® method has been presented at the International Congress for Parkinson’s Disease and Related Disorders in Berlin, the World Parkinson Congress, and at the Society for Neuroscience. The program was recognized as a model program by the Society for the Arts in Healthcare. Features about the program have appeared on PBS NewsHour, NPR, CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, and Reuters, and in The New York Times and USA Today, among others. The program has been honored by several awards, including the Parkinson Awareness Award , Alan Bonander Humanitarian Award, the Sapolin Award for Public Service from the New York City Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities and the William Pearson Tolley Medal for Distinguished Leadership in Life Long Learning. Evidence from 35 peer-reviewed scientific studies serves to underpin the effectiveness and benefits of the Dance for PD teaching practice.
