CG NEWS & EVENTS

Fall Bible School Starts on Sunday!

You are invited to join us this Sunday as we embark on our adventure through Abundance Orchard! We will delve into Bible stories with Miss Jen, play games with Mr. Frank, sing songs with Miss Rachel, and more! This journey through the orchard is for the whole church family (and their friends and extended family, too, of course!) together. Kids, bring your parents!

Everyone is asked to bring their lunch this Sunday and the other two Sundays of FBS. We will eat a quick meal together right after Worship and then embark on our adventure from 12:30ish to 2:00ish. Please Note ~ Some of our games will involve movement, so please wear safe and appropriate footwear for active games.

September 30, October 7, and October 14 after Worship until 2:00ish
October 20 from 3-5pm, Fall Fest included, with bonfire dinner after 5:00

FBS News

At Common Ground, we do a lot of things during Bible School. Two of the big things we highlight are God Sightings and a mission project:

▪ God Sightings, as you might know, are signs of God at work all around us. You might see God in a spectacular sunset, hear Him in a baby's laugh, or feel His touch in a hug from a friend. Keep an eye out for these occasions when you notice the hand of God in your life. We will have special times at FBS to share them, during which we will display them by adding apples to an apple tree.
▪ The Mission Project for Abundance Orchard will be collecting donations for Second Harvest Food Bank. The Food Bank is able to make donated dollars really stretch. For every $1 given, they distribute $11 worth of food, or approximately 5 meals! We will take offering each day of FBS and those funds will be sent to Second Harvest. We will also have a place set up in the Sanctuary to collect needed food items. They appreciate all items, but the most requested ones are cereal, peanut butter, canned veggies, fruits & soups, tuna fish, dry pasta, and macaroni & cheese. Today is our final CSA day for this season, from 4-7pm. If you need to make arrangements to pick up tomorrow, just give us a call. Our fall hours are 8:30 to 2:30.

This week's share is a very special one to wrap up a great season with wonderful subscribers! We hope you enjoy the farm fresh goodies from Goodness Grows, Huffman Fruit Farm, and Baker's Golden Dairy! Don't forget to grab your recipes!

CSA 2019 information will be posted on our website, Facebook page, and here in the Scoop as soon as we have it. Keep an eye out in the new year. We look forward to continuing to provide easy access to fresh, local produce and value added items, while giving our clients and students opportunities to learn about sustainable farming.

Community Support

We wanted to send out a big thank you to a wonderful local business, Baker's Golden Dairy in New Waterford. If you have never been there, or haven't bought their products at local farm markets, you are missing out! Their milk is, "milk like it used to be." They are helping us to wrap up our CSA in a big way by donating milk for our shares. The good folks there gave us two of their amazing flavors, in pints and mini moos! We are so appreciative of their generosity and support. We hope our subscribers enjoy this delicious product! Learn more about the dairy here: Baker's Golden Dairy

Thursday Visitors

Look who came to see us today! Rachel was lucky enough to have a short visit with Lynn and Bob Yoder. They stopped to buy a wooden fall pumpkin made by our clients and to restock their Jungle Jam supply. Thanks, Lynn & Bob!

Happenings Here

Monday was a busy day, as we headed to Whispering Pines for our morning of volunteering. Then we went apple picking at Huffman Fruit Farm, which really was a lot of fun! We recommend you check them out! Tuesday saw Leetonia in a frenzy of FBS decorating and sorting coats and clothes for our October Giveaway. Today, Salem was hard at work picking produce for the last day of our CSA. Tomorrow, Crestview will be here, jumping into whatever we ask of them. What a huge help the students and staff are to us!

OUTREACH and MISSION OPPORTUNITIES

Coat & Clothing Drive

Ongoing Outreach/Mission Opportunity
Our Coat & Clothing Giveaway is rapidly approaching! Drop off clothing and outerwear any time, in the barrel in the Great Room, in the storage room by the Cafe, or up in the Green Room. Please help us spread the word. Let people know we are accepting donations and tell people who might need a little helping hand to come see us on October 13th!

Second Harvest Food Bank

Can't make it to FBS but would still like to help with our mission project? Monetary donations and canned/boxed food items will be accepted through October 20th to help Second Harvest feed hungry local families.

~~~
For I was hungry and you gave me food;
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink;
I was a stranger and you took me in;
I was naked and you clothed me;
I was sick and you visited me.
I was in prison and you came to me.
.....When you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters,
you were doing it to me.
Matthew 25: 35-36, 40
