Give A Christmas lends a hand to families in need

By Shane Fitzgerald, Executive Editor

Being a positive community contributor is a cornerstone of our mission at Calkins Media. Our Give A Christmas endeavor, which has raised more than $10 million for the community, is one of our proudest accomplishments.

In the 17 months I have been here, I have been struck by how generous this community is. Time and time again, when needs come up, the residents here come through.

Give A Christmas is near and dear to my heart. The way the money is distributed helps families, in most cases with children under 17, in a way in which they need. Sometimes, it provides a gift for kids who might not get one. Other times, it helps pay the utility or food bills. And it's not just about Christmas. It helps anyone in need, regardless of their faith or beliefs.

Meet the BCOC Staff!

Owen Beuerle is a Home Energy Auditor. He works with the Home Energy Conservation team to weatherize homes of low-income families in Bucks County, reducing their energy burden and saving them money on their heating and cooling bills. "I chose to work at the Opportunity Council because I believe in its mission of helping the community. Before BCOC, I worked in the maintenance department for a retirement community. When I am not at work, I enjoy spending my time outdoors, whether it's rock climbing or going for a long hike." Thank you for your commitment to helping our community Owen!
