Priority Languages Support - Expression of interest for projects in 2022

Galang ngunu colleagues,

First Languages Australia is calling for expressions of interest for the Priority Languages Support Project. This program aims to support critically endangered languages where no language revival activity is currently undertaken. Projects can include the following activities:

1. Support community language teams to document speakers of the target language.
2. Support community language lessons where these are considered vital to achieving the outcomes of the project, and where they are not available through any other activity.
3. Support the development of teaching and learning resources, which are considered crucial to the ongoing revival of the target language, for community use.

Please note that the funding support through this program averages at $20,000 per project, and only languages that are not currently being supported through other services are eligible.

If you would like to nominate one or more languages to be considered for this project, you can do so by completing and returning the Expression of Interest. Alternatively you can download the PDF version of the expression of interest and email it to us.

Projects will run for 12 months with the option to begin in March or June 2022. Please indicate your preferred commencement date and we will do our best to accommodate everyone’s needs.

Please submit your expression of interest by C.O.B Friday 28 January 2022.

We encourage applicants to view the tips for applicants sheet, and the project example on our website, before completing the survey.

Please note that an organisation will be required to enter into a Service Agreement with First Languages Australia to administer the project. First Languages Australia requires non-incorporated applicants to seek the support of an incorporated organisation with a demonstrated capacity to undertake and oversee community projects. The incorporated applicant will then enter into the Service Agreement with First Languages Australia to manage the proposed project as the auspice body.

As the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications, Indigenous Languages and Arts (ILA) Program funds this program, we cannot support languages receiving funding through any other ILA programs.

Kind regards,
Annalee Pope
