RIPTA RIDER OF THE MONTH

Maryland native Lyric C. was first introduced to RIPTA a little over a year ago while she was a student at Johnson & Wales University (JWU). JWU students receive discounted transit fare products through our U-Pass program. “I found that it was the easiest way of transportation in Rhode Island. There aren’t many places that I couldn’t get to using RIPTA.”

Now that Lyric has graduated college and entered the workforce, she continues to ride RIPTA to her first job at Big Orange Productions. She leaves her home in Providence, boards either Route 50 or 57 to Kennedy Plaza and then transfers to Route 72 to get to her job in Pawtucket.

“I think my favorite thing about public transportation is having the time to clear my head while I’m going from one place to another. Riding RIPTA gives me time to both prepare and unload before and after my day which is something I greatly appreciate. I also really appreciate the bus drivers; they have always been super helpful and kind, whether it’s helping me get a transfer or being patient while I figured out how to use RIPTA’s Flash Pass for the first time.”

RIPTA PARTICIPATES IN ECONOMIC GROWTH MEETING

The economic growth potential for all of East Bay was the topic of discussion at a special forum held recently in Warren, with RIPTA participating. Our CEO, Scott Avedisian, took the opportunity to talk about the importance of public transportation to economic development and to highlight some new business-friendly routes we have launched.

Those routes include the new spur of Route 61X that gets employees from Providence to Warren area businesses, our Qx express service from Pawtucket and Providence to the Quonset Business Park, and our new Route 24x which connects Providence and Newport with a stop in Fall River.

The event also featured Congressman David Cicilline and Scott Jensen, Director of RI Department of Labor and Training.
