Sunday's Service - October 20, 2019 | We welcome back Adam Shank to lead us in Worship this week. The featured Scripture comes from: 1 Peter 2:9-10 for Adam's message: A People of Praise. We will celebrate the Sacrament of Communion. | Join us this Sunday for Worship! | Fall Harvest & CG Birthday Celebration THIS Saturday from 2-4pm Join us to celebrate the fall harvest as well as the "birthday" of Common Ground! On this exact date in 2008 (11 years ago!), CGCC held our first service in our building! Since it is our 11th birthday, we will be having cake & beverages, fun & games, and plenty of good fellowship. | Since we are also celebrating this beautiful fall season, we will be having our very first Pumpkin Carving Contest! All ages are invited to carve a jack o'lantern (or two) at home and bring them here, already carved, for judging and fun. SO, what do you need to bring on Saturday? Family & Friends Costume (if you're dressing up) Candy (to pass out) Carved Jack O'Lanterns (if you're participating in the contest) * Readiness to play & have fun! | Bible Studies Sunday Morning Class: Romans, 9:30am (Only 1 more chapter left in Romans!) | Wednesday Morning Ladies Study: 9:30am Best Friends with God: Falling in Love with the God Who Loves You by Christy Bower. This weekend, our youth are all invited (with their families) to come celebrate Common Ground and Fall Harvest Time on Saturday from 2-4pm. We hope to see everyone here!! Remember, no Youth Group this Sunday. We invite all the youth to join us for fun, fellowship, and learning this year, most Sunday evenings from 6-7:30pm. | YG Service for Our Giveaway Thank you for your work for the community! Your service is appreciated! | Flu Shot Sunday A great big thanks to our own Dr. Pat for once again providing flu shots to our church family! As long as his flu shots arrive this week, we will have shots here this Sunday, October 20! There is a sign up sheet on the bulletin board. Jot your name on there, then head to the Cafe before or after Worship on flu shot Sunday. While not perfect, the seasonal flu shot protects against the three or four influenza viruses that research indicates will be most common during the season and can reduce the severity of a bout of the flu. Get protected this season! | Musical Volunteers We have had a variety of talented folks participate in our music Worship lately. Big thanks go to Janine, Jack, Audrey, and Mike, as well as to our regulars, Jessica and Rachel! Are you interested in sharing your musical gifts through singing or playing an instrument during Worship? We would love to have you jump on board. Just let us know! | October Speakers 27th - John Muckridge | www.goodnessgrows4all.org Our Mission Statement: To cultivate personal, social, and community growth through gardening, education, and opportunity for people of all abilities. ~~~ | Fall at GG We began this week with a field trip to the OSU Extension Office in Canfield to drop off soil samples. These folks will test soil from all of our fields so that we can add the proper nutrients back into the soil in order to grow the best produce possible next year. Then we made a stop at the wonderful (and local) Rhodes Farm Market for a few items. Some of our clients really enjoyed exploring all the goodies this market has to offer...especially the enormous variety of chocolate and yogurt covered pretzels. If you ever want to stop by with pretzels, we wouldn't say no! | Tuesday's lunch was ground beef stroganoff over egg noodles with spinach, apple slices, and bread. Even such a simple meal is tasty in the expert hands of Sue and the GG team! Nancy Snyder came for lunch and Frank Snyder stopped by to say hello. It was a very exciting Tuesday! We love having visitors! Tuesday was also our last fall day with our friends from Leetonia. We appreciate all their help and hard work this season and we look forward to their return in the spring! Luckily, our Mohawk and Transition classes will still be with us for a couple more weeks. On Wednesday, GG and Mohawk packed up the leftovers from the Giveaway and moved furniture. We also delivered some produce to the 3C's for this week's food distribution. The rest of the week will be full of cleaning inside and prepping areas outside for winter. There is always something to work on at GG! | Lunch with Nancy! | | Rachel & Anita with the final share. | Community Supported Agriculture CSA season has come to a close. Info about our 2020 season will be out in late winter/early spring. Throughout the course of this very unusual growing season, our subscribers received 67 different produce items (veggies, fruits, and herbs), 14 different value added items (jams, salsas, muffins, etc.), and 3 special items (tie-dyed bags, birdhouse gourds, and Boston ferns). We supplemented with produce from some of our very favorite local farms, including McMaster Farm, Huffman Fruit Farm, Van Pelts, Horst, and Angiuli's Farm Market. We also enjoyed sharing fruit and eggs from the family farm of one of our clients and tomatoes and peppers from our friends the Shannons and the Snyders. We so appreciate everyone who helped with this year's CSA and all the people who supported GG by subscribing to it. Goodness grows because of all of you! | Friendsgiving Join us for a GG fundraiser at Diletto Winery in Boardman the night before Thansksgiving, November 27, from 6-9pm, complete with a basket raffle. The band “On the Rocks“ will be playing at 6:30. Come out and enjoy some relaxation with good friends, good food, and good music for a good cause! Basket raffle donations are needed. If you would like to put together a basket from yourself, your organization, or your business, please let us know. All donations very much appreciated! We love to share donations and information on our Facebook page, website, and in our newsletter. There is a basket donation sign up sheet on the bulletin board in the Great Room. | OUTREACH and MISSION OPPORTUNITIES | Giveaway Donations The Giveaway is over. Long live the Giveaway! The donation process has already restarted for next year's Giveaway. When you clean out your closets, attics, shelves, and car trunks, think about Common Ground. We are happy to take coats, clothing, and any other items that are in good repair that you think might benefit someone else. But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? 1 John 3:17 | Giveaway Volunteers Appreciated! Thank you so much to all who helped in any way! Because of all of you, the Giveaway was a fantastic success. We enjoyed around 200 guests browsing the tables and racks, munching on cookies, drinking hot cocoa and coffee, and chatting. It was a wonderful day of community and caring! | For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me a drink; I was a stranger and you took me in; I was naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you visited me. I was in prison and you came to me. .....When you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me.
