| Lions Weekly: October 5, 2022 | A Note From Mr. Sandefur Lion Families, This afternoon I humbly ask that you join our faculty, staff, and leadership team in praying for our ACSI Accreditation visit that is occurring tomorrow, October 6. Our team has been working diligently to prepare for this upcoming visit to showcase all that the Lord has so faithfully done and provided over the past several years. You may remember that I wrote a few months ago about TKA seeking to change our accreditation to better align with our spiritual views in an ever-darkening landscape that seeks to impact what is taught to our children. The Board of Trustees approved the move to seek accreditation through the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) in order to align our standards with biblically-based and designed standards for educational practice. ACSI uses the Cognia (formerly AdvancedED and SACS) standards, however, they are able to edit the standards that public schools are forced to follow with biblically-based standards. This move allows us to have an excellent accreditation standard that is internationally recognized while protecting us from the standards that are infiltrating schools across the country that do not align with our biblical values. We ask that you pray for favor tomorrow as we meet with our accreditation representative and tell the story of The King’s Academy. I hope that each of you has a wonderful and safe Fall Break and look forward to celebrating our Homecoming with each of you upon our return. In Christ Alone, Jeremy Sandefur President/Head of School | No Aftercare Friday, October 7 On Friday, October 7, we will not have aftercare available. The King’s Academy is excited to announce the hiring of Christopher Moore as Director of Culinary Services. Our Lord has made His direction clear to us as we have sought His will and discernment in filling the role. Please join me in welcoming Chris Moore to our team here at TKA. Chris and Shannon Moore have been married for 27 years. They have two sons, William and Sean. After graduating from The Culinary Institute of America, Chris and Shannon headed to San Francisco where the farm to table culture was exploding. After short stints at local restaurants, they opened Rocco's Seafood Grill on Van Ness which became a popular San Fran Seafood haunt and received high reviews from the SF Chronicle. After William was born, Chris worked in the following cities to continue honing his culinary experience: Charleston, Atlanta, Houston, and Colorado. The move to Colorado was a catalyst God used to get Chris’ attention and he accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior. Shannon was having the same experience at a church the same day, and they were saved at the same time. Then, it was home to East Tennessee as the chef for Stokely Hospitality, followed by 10 years at the Knoxville Convention Center. Before the pandemic, he was the corporate chef for Regal and was asked to develop the Cinebarre in Knoxville, which was proliferated nationally. He then served with Pioneer College Caterers at Johnson University before becoming a managing partner at Mama C's, inc. God has very clearly called Chris to join Shannon here at The King's Academy. A vision for the TKA Culinary Program and Food services was planted in Chris’ heart. He is excited to co-labor for the Lord, reach the lost, and equip the brethren to fulfill the great commission, all for His Glory! | High School Boys Soccer Coach Thaylan Silva On behalf of the Athletic Department of The King's Academy, it is my honor to inform all stakeholders of an exciting addition to our staff. We are thrilled to announce the hire of Thaylan Silva as the next high school boys' soccer coach at TKA. Coach Silva will be joined by current Assistant Coach Ezeqiuel Jose as they work with our Lions Soccer Program. We are looking forward to having Coach Silva on our campus and ask that you join us in welcoming him to our community. Thaylan Silva was born in São Paulo, Brazil where he played for São Paulo Futebol Clube for 8 years before moving to the US in 2017. Coach Silva played soccer for Carson-Newman University for four years. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Communications and a Masters Degree in Business. Silva has won more than 20 individual awards (including being an Academic All-American) and 2 regular season championships during his time at Carson-Newman. All visitors for elementary must enter the front door of the Ogle Building in order to receive a visitor's pass. This pass should be visible at all times so that TKA faculty and staff know that you have checked in at the office. Our doors are open to visitors, but please call ahead of time to schedule conferences with your child’s teachers. This will prevent interruptions to instruction and the loss of the valuable learning time of our students. Adults will not be allowed to wander the halls of the building or hold conferences with teachers during instructional times. TKA family lunch visitors should follow the above procedure. Lunch tickets are $5 each. Students who are not enrolled at TKA are not permitted to visit TKA students during the school day, which includes lunch. This policy has been developed in order to help maintain a safe and instruction focused environment at school each day. Any visitor who does not meet these expectations may be asked to leave school grounds. | | |
