SPA Canada applauds Air Canada and WestJet's decision to stop promoting daily animal cruelty at Sea World

Montreal, October 30, 2018 - It is with great pleasure that the Society for the Protection of Animals Canada (SPA Canada) supports the decision of Air Canada and West Jet to put an end to the promotion of cruelty at Sea World.

Following the decision of the Canadian Senate to make the reproduction and captivity of dolphins and whales illegal in Canada (Bill S-203), the two airlines cut their ties with the infamous Sea World company. "The majority of the public do not want to endure the captivity of majestic beings in despicable places under the ridiculous pretext of entertainment, education or research," says Gabriel Villeneuve, director of campaigns at SPA Canada. "These animals must no longer be seen as slaves, clowns, and merchandise in the eyes of humans, but as beings who are on earth for their own ends and owe nothing to humans. Let's stop treating them as commodities at our service.”

SPA Canada is now asking Air Canada to extend its compassion to animals and to ban the transport of laboratory animals on its aircraft as is already done for ethical reasons by several airlines such as United Airlines, British Airways, China Southern Airlines, and Qatar Airways.
