“Hello, I’m Speranca. As a recent graduate from the Odette School of Business, I am determined to take all the skills that I have developed throughout my university career and really put them to the test. I am a gritty and ambitious young woman that is excited to start her career and really strive and make a positive impact on other peoples’ lives. The thought of recruitment has always been exciting to me because I can help others get ahead in their career. I have always had the ability to really listen to what people want and try to help them while keeping their best interest in mind. Also, with my strong marketing background, I will be able to bring a fresh new approach to recruitment while still applying the tips and tricks that Mark and his team here at Tier One will be teaching me throughout my journey to becoming the best that I can be!”
Some Insights from a New Recruiter
1) What were your perceptions of recruiting before joining forces with Tier One Executive Search?
Before learning about Tier One, I was always under the impression that all recruiters worked for job agencies and were only focused on getting anyone placed to just make a buck. I wasn’t aware that there were different types of firms, some who work on contingency, some on retainers, etc. So, it’s really cool to see that there are multiple types of recruiting firms that have different goals.
2) What are you most looking forward to in your new career?
I am looking forward to helping clients find the right fit for their company. I think it’s really exciting to be able to offer someone the chance to further their career.
3) What do you anticipate being the biggest learning curve for you in this role?
The biggest learning curve will be to remove myself from the sales woman mentality… Granted, this field is sort of like sales, but I am not selling a random product that you’ll forget about next week. I am selling you the opportunity to do big things for yourself and your future. I am an opportunity woman.
4) As a recent graduate, what do you think is one of the biggest benefits of hiring someone who is just starting their career?
I think that because I am fresh out of school, I am “hungry” for experience. I want to work and start my career. I want to prove to people that my generation is not lazy, but instead we are smart, savvy and willing to work even if our work ethic differs from other generations. The biggest benefit has got to be the fact that we think and work differently. We are growing up in an ever-changing environment and we know how to adjust to it while remaining efficient.
5) Do you have any tips for employers who might be trying to build up their workforce with today’s graduates? In other words, what can companies do to attract the next generation of workers?
Make the work place fun. My generation is interested in a balance between work and life and if you can make the environment one where they really enjoy being apart of, then I guarantee that both you the employer, and the employee will be happy. I think my generation is very aware that life is short and we’re more interested in living in the moment and creating new experiences vs. working our lives away. Therefore, by creating an environment where people are happy to go to, it won’t feel like work, but more like play.
