Kaladesh brings new innovations

Kaladesh contains 264 cards (15 basic lands, 101 commons, 80 uncommons, 53 rares, 15 mythic rares) and includes randomly inserted premium versions of all cards. Find out all the set info.

The expansion symbol is a Far Eastern inspired floral motif, representing the aether of the plane.

Kaladesh premieres Planeswalker decks, which replace Intro packs. These contain 10 additional cards that are considered to be part of the set (2 mythic planeswalkers, 2 rares, 2 uncommons, 2 commons and 2 common dual lands). The Fat pack for this set was reimagined as the Kaladesh Bundle.

The set introduces create as a new vocabulary word. Create is used when a card or effect puts a token onto the battlefield.

Kaladesh Trivia:

Although Wizards of the Coast used the ligature Æ — the A and E combined into one letter — for aether since the beginning of the game, this was changed for Kaladesh, which features the stuff heavily. According to Blake Rasmussen, it caused way more issues than it was worth (particularly in translation). Good riddance!

Masterpiece Series and a new Rarity

According to Wizards, starting with Kaladesh and for the foreseeable future, they will be adding a new feature called the Masterpiece Series. Each individual block will have its own name for the Series (the Masterpiece Series for Kaladesh block, for example, will be called Kaladesh Inventions), but it will be referred to overall as the Masterpiece Series. Basically, they are taking what they did with Zendikar Expeditions and applying it to every set.

One of the most interesting things about this is that all the cards will exist at a new rarity higher than mythic rare and will exist only in premium foil versions.

They will also be mostly reprints, but will additionally contain cards from the current set. They will be legal in any Limited format they're opened in and in any Constructed format in which the card is already legal.

Kaladesh Inventions

Kaladesh Inventions

Kaladesh Inventions is a promotional Magic set of 54 foil artifacts cards that are randomly inserted in boosters of the Kaladesh block. The set is part of the Masterpiece Series.

Cards of this set feature a special Kaladeshi card frame and a separate expansion symbol. Thus, they are not part of the sets themselves. Kaladesh Inventions feature all new art set on Kaladesh and appear slightly more often than premium mythic rares. They are printed in English only, but can be opened in packs of all languages. These cards are playable in limited and formats where they're already legal. 30 Invention cards appear with Kaladesh and 24 more cards in Aether Revolt.
