Much to celebrate today as many of us make our way to Albany for a rally and party at the State of the State. High-volume horizontal fracking will be banned in NYS and we couldn't be more thrilled about that! Plus, it's been a HUGE week for the Port Ambrose fight, and the count at the Seneca Lake blockade has just passed 200 arrests! Yet even as we take a moment to high five over a big win, we know our friends in Westchester, Rockland, Delaware, Orange, Madison, Chemung, Tompkins, and other counties are preparing for hearings and lawsuits. In fact, we can't really think of a single place in New York that is not affected in some way by a fracking-related pipeline, compressor station or infrastructure project. So yes, we'll take a moment to bask in real successes, enjoy the company of good friends, acknowledge how significant a moment we've come to, then we'll get right back to it because we know, seriously, time's up.

Hearings and Comments and Deadlines, Oh My!

Having a hard time keeping up with all the overlapping comment deadlines and hearings? Us too. So we decided to do something about it: We're launching The Infrastructure Report, an ongoing roundup of the dates and dockets you need to know. This issue, find updates on the Constitution and AIM pipelines, Seneca Lake and the Dominion New Market Project at this link. Remember, even if you can't make it to a hearing you can still comment!

Great Good News on Port Ambrose!

LI Herald

Congresswoman Kathleen Rice joined Assemblyman Todd Kaminsky, Nassau County Legislator Denise Ford, and Long Beach City Council President Anthony Eramo, at a press conference Thursday calling on Governor Cuomo to veto Port Ambrose. LI Herald photo courtesy of Congresswoman Kathleen Rice.

What a terrific demonstration of bottom-up, grassroots organizing: Radiating out from Long Beach, the chorus of voices against the Port Ambrose LNG project is amping up in a big way: Not only did we knock it out of the park at the January 7th hearing, check out these fantastic developments this week alone:

1) The appointment of Senator Brad Hoylman as the ranking Democrat on the State Senate Environmental Committee (read why this is important to Port Ambrose here.)

2) We now have formal opposition in Nassau at the city, county, state, and federal levels.

3) Most surprising, for those of us who know him as a pro-fracking conservative, State Senator Dean Skelos has written his own letter to Gov. Cuomo opposing Port Ambrose.

4) On Thursday, January 22nd, at 1pm, NYC Council Chair of the Environmental Committee, Donovan Richards, will introduce a resolution against Port Ambrose.
Full report here.

Thursday, January 22nd @ 1pm in City Hall!

NYC Councilman Donovan Richards

We're making great progress on Port Ambrose but we still need to convince Governor Cuomo to veto it. After the final Environmental Impact Statement is released, which we anticipate will ok the project, if neither he nor NJ Governor Christie move to veto it, it will automatically be approved. We can't let that happen. To stop it we need a massive statewide show of opposition.

Be at City Hall Council Chambers to support Councilman Donovan Richards as he announces a resolution opposing Port Ambrose LNG. (Enter through security gate inside City Hall Park.) AND CLICK THIS LINK. Use the sample letters to get your own reps involved. We’ll post links to the NYC reso and the state sign on letter as soon as available!

Reportback on You Are Here Forum

Sunday was a dreary weather day––freezing rain, slippery streets and treacherous traveling. Even so, there was a standing-room-only turn out for our You Are Here forum and book signing event, The Landscape of Fracking in New York; What's Changed and What Hasn't. Thanks to everyone who came out, to Bookcourt for hosting us, to Two Boots of Brooklyn and Catskill Brewery for their delicious pizza and beer! If you missed out on getting a copy of Michelle Bamberger and Robert Oswald's new book, The Real Cost of Fracking before they sold out, you can order online direct from the Beacon, NY publisher.
